  1. Hello, even I am from India but on a slightly different situation as I am currently doing my master's here. As far as I know almost all the schools do Skype interviews for international students especially in India. There are some exception though like University of Washington Neuroscience program which requires all to student to attend in person interviews. In person interview for International students are really expensive and most of the school won't reimburse airfare charges. But the main reason why most of school don't except students in India to show up for in person interviews when compared to Singapore or any european students is because of the visa restrictions. It is not easy to get US visa (its a time consuming process) and at the same time the program won't sponsor for your visa. If I were you, I would definitely ask for Skype interview! And congrats to everyone who has got early invites.
  2. Undergrad Institution: Anna University (India), Masters- Northwestern, Evanston Major(s): Undergrad- Electrical Engineering, Masters-Biomedical Engineering Minor(s):GPA in Major: Overall GPA: Undergrad- 7.76/10, Grad- 3.367/4Position in Class: Type of Student: International Male GRE Scores (revised/old version):Q: 150 V: 161W: 3.5 B:Research Experience: Summer 2013- Intern at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (worked in a famous neuroscience lab). Assisted a PostDoc and worked on predicting the human acoustic intensity using the conditional CDFs. From September 2014 (22 months) - Working on my Master's thesis. Independent project to understanding tactile perception in rats, using electrophysiology! ~12 months during undergrad, did signal and image processing work 2 posters and 1 conference paper (co-author) Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Nominated for the Outstanding Undergraduate student award (16/1500)Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutoring basic calculus, physics and programming at Northwestern.Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Involved in quite a lot of outreach activities both at Northwestern and back in India! Special Bonus Points: 2 strong recommendations (one from Northwestern and one form India). One medium recommendation form a very well know neuroscience professor. Met with 5-6 prospective PI at SfN. Applying to Where: Northwestern - Neuroscience UChicago - Computational Neuroscience Stony Brook - Neuroscience BU - Neuroscience UUtah - Neuroscience Emory - Neuroscience UCLA - Neuroscience UWashington - Neuroscience NYU - Neuroscience Columbia - Neuroscience CMU/UPitt - Neural Computation JHU - Neuroscience My GPA turned out to be low since I took only graduate level neuroscience classes at Northwestern without any biology background. I am really worried as both my GRE and GPA scores are below average! I would greatly appreciate profile evaluation and general suggestions!
  3. Hey! Even i got an admit from Northwestern University and I am planning to attend it. But i don't think the tuition fees is 90,000 at Northwestern. Its only 45, 000 if you finish your courses in three quarters and then you dont need to pay tuition during research (i.e from 4 to 8 quarter).
  4. Hey guys, i have decided to join Northwestern by this Fall (for MS Biomedical). I am from India and i have never even been in place where the temperature is less than 10C! So I am really excited towards Chicago and i am not sure how i am gonna survive the cold..
  5. I have finally decided to join Northwestern for Masters in Biomedical Engineering! Is there any one else who is gonna join Northwester by this Fall...? Facebook group for BME class of 2016 https://www.facebook.com/groups/707889022591358/
  6. lewin thank you very much for your reply. Its a great strategy. I looked into the publications of the faculty and found that on average the department publishes 4-6 papers in top five journals per month. So, what does it mean....is it low or moderate?
  7. I will definitely apply for a PhD after I finish my masters. Most probably I would wanna go to University of Chicago (the research done in the few particular labs intrigue me a lot). If you are talking about where i plan work after i finish my PhD...i would say I wanna come back to India. And to get a faculty position, it would be preferable if i finish my PhD in US. The general opinion in India is that if you finish your PhD in US, you don't need to do a PostDoc but if your PhD is from Europe, u definitely need to do a PostDoc for getting a faculty position.
  8. As i was rejected from everywhere for a direct PhD in Neuroscience, i have two options right now- 1. Join as a RA and work in a lab for a year or two (but the problem with this is that, being an international student I can't get a RA position anywhere in US). 2. Join a masters program- the issue with this is that i kindda thought i would at least get into any one PhD program, so i dint think about Master early. By March i applied for very few masters program in Europe. Recently, I have got an admit for the funded (amount not yet decided) cognitive neuroscience masters at University of Trento in Italy. I am not able find many alumnus from this university, but i looked into faculty research and they were pretty, most of them have very good citations. Even Harvard conducts neuroscience summer research program every year at this University. Its raked 1st In Italy (by Times Higher Education). So I would be happy if i get any reviews about the program and the university....in case there are any alumni from this university I would love to talk with you!!
  9. Hello everyone, Recently I have got an admit from the University of Trento for the Masters program in Cognitive Neuroscience. I am not able to find much about the university (except that its ranked 1st in Italy by Times Higher Education). So i would be happy if i can get an reviews about the program and the university.....in case there are any alumni from this university i would love to talk with you!

  11. Hey, even i am facing the same situation. That too, I only applied to the universities where i got a positive reply from the POI's. But in the end i din't get any interview invites as of now. Emailing the POI's helped me to get to know my weakspots. Basically i am from engineering background and i haven't taken many science courses. My POI from duke said that the main reason for my rejection was that i dint take enough biology courses. While my POI from UCSD was very much interested in my work (as he was from cognitive computational neuro) and he added that i should retake my GRE to improve my verbal score and definitely apply for next year. As i have completely lost my confidence, right now i thought of applying for the Masters program. But again, as the deadline for most of the universities have already passed i think i am back to square one. So, I certainly have no idea what i am gonna do after 6 months!
  12. Are you talking about the Neuroscience and Cognition (NACS) program...I imagined that they still haven't started sending out interview invites.
  13. Got my first set rejections from Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), Duke (Cog Neuro- it seems they take only 5 students every year), Harvard, JHU (assumed). Is there any one else with no interview invites as of now? I guess the main reason was because I dint have a full time work experience (though I will have ~2.5 research experience in my Undergrad). I am starting to think of alternative options, so any general advice.
