  1. Right? -- no one hires just for 4-5 months. I am also wondering what to do during the summer. I would like to move early to get to know the place because I will be moving from overseas, but even then I would have nothing to do there. I also considered summer courses but that's expensive. I will probably stay in my room studying French? Boring..
  2. Yeah, thanks! I just thought "hard copy" might magically mean something that many people know about and I dont..
  3. Does anyone applying to maryland know if or what I need send through snail mail? the graduate catalog only says "hard copy mailed to the graduate secretary". Thanks a lot for your help!!
  4. I know all universities use different systems, but for me, (im applying to 5 schools) none of them shows that they have received my gre or toefl score. Is this normal? And would it be okay if I had the receipt from ETS? Thanks lots!!
  5. I am so late but I wanted to thank you for encouraging me to ask her! She very nicely accepted to write one for me.
  6. I am thinking about asking for the rec letter from a professor of the school i am applying to. I have taken her class when she taught at my school as a visiting lecturer. We have talked a lot, about research too. I am planning to ask letters for other school as well. What do you think? any idea would be welcome and appreciated.
  7. Hi, I am an art history undergrad in Japan. I have a simple question on a very general topic regarding graduate application: Do many undergrad students in the US go to the graduate level of the same school? Or do they go to different school? In Japan, many undergrads usually go to the graduate level in the same school, thus knowing the adviser very well before admittance. I'm just curious. Any comments appreciated! Thanks,
  8. How can I upload a blog?

  9. Thank you all for replying! I guess I have to face the reality that GRE matters, and the only thing I could do is to get the best score possible. Also, thank you fuzzylogician. It's nice to know that someone understands that I worry so much. I guess I am nervous because I have the test next week, so it really helps. VioletAyame and spunky, congratulations on your admission! If you don't mind, I would like to know your verbal scores and how you got it. I have enrolled in Magoosh and I am doing a heck load of reading. I guess I have to start doing vocab like crazy.. Another thing, spunky, how did you get the "absolute confidence" to say that they look at the score in exactly the same way as they do for native speakers?
  10. Hi! I am a Japanese student, going to be taking the GRE next week. I've been studying for it almost everyday, but the score is not improving, especially verbal. I think I can get around 160 on math but I'm about 150 on verbal right now. I'm really worried because I'm going for around top 20 art history programs which would probably require around 160 in verbal. Does anyone have any idea how universities look at GRE for international non-native speakers? I feel like it should be unfair if the scores were considered equally with the native scores?
  11. Hi, LeventeL! Thanks for the reply I have actually started taking the Magoosh prep course. They have pretty good flashcards and I'm liking it a lot. Do you think, for the reading comprehension, I need to practice fast reading? Would that be effective?
  12. I went to the first conference ever. So inspiring!!!!

  13. Hi! I am looking for some materials to improve my verbal scores. Many online resources- Magoosh, Kaplan, Manhattan Prep, etc.- have lots of materials on quant but not as much on verbal. English is my second language and I really want to improve the verbal and writing. My verbal score now is 150 and I want to raise it to 160 at least. I know it'd be really hard but I need that score. Any advice would help. I am willing to pay some money if that's necessary. Tell me what helped the most for you? Or if you know which of them that has a good reputation for verbal? Thanks!
  14. how do i keep my motivation going
