  1. Hello - this post is quite old, but I'm hoping any feedback is still valid. I'm currently considering the MESA program and wanted to get some opinions on how it may fit into my plans. I'm considering going into social psychology but haven't decided exactly what my ideal role will be. I do know that I want to combine my current experience (industrial engineering, loads of data analysis, etc). with future work. I saw this program as a good segue way to doing research in different areas of psychology. Does this seem like a fair though process? Thanks, Crystal
  2. Hi everyone, I'm seeking some opinions on the better route to earning a graduate degree in community psychology. I currently have a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and have been in the corporate world for the last ~10 years. My engineering degree didn't require any research, so I don't have that to fall back on, but the math and science coursework is strong. However, I wouldn't have any letters of recommendation coming from individuals w/a psychology background. Is the best path to just apply to graduate programs I'm interested in and make my personal statement a stellar one - knowing I would need to fill in the "blanks" where I'm lacking in undergrad psychology coursework OR take some undergrad courses in the summer and get to know some of the professors fill in some of the blanks and possibly improve my LORs? All thoughts appreciated. Thank you! Crystal
  3. Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice on obtaining research experience. My undergrad was in industrial engineering, which didn't require any research. I graduated in 2001 and have been working full time since. I'm planning to apply to some social psychology programs. Because my undergrad is not in psychology, I'm concerned that a lack of research experience will be two strikes against my application. What options are available to obtain research experience? Can I reach out to professors and volunteer to assist? I have experience - both thanks to my school and work experience - with many of the "tools". What other options are available? Has anyone else been in this position and found a solution? Thanks for any advice!
