  1. Anyone else attending Vanderbilt? PM me.
  2. I think this boils down to what you enjoy doing more. It doesn't matter so much the salary difference if you don't enjoy what you are doing.
  3. It's a tough decision but I don't think I can necessarily make a wrong one. I believe both are really good programs. Same goes to you, Brooks. Those are both great options.
  4. Yes, very torn between Colorado State (Biochemistry) and Vanderbilt (Chemistry). I had a way better visit at Colorado State (because the Vanderbilt visit was so last minute) but the facilities (especially NMR as I'm interested in structural studies) and funding seem better at Vanderbilt. Such a big decision...
  5. Just got accepted to Vanderbilt today! Still waiting on Wisconsin-Madison and I'm assuming its a rejection, but who knows because I've seen a couple acceptances on the results page recently.
  6. Thank you! Where did you ultimately decide to go and did you visit at Vanderbilt?
  7. One C+ in your sophomore year and you are worried? They probably won't even look at that. Be more concerned about building good relationships for good letters of rec and getting a lot of research experience. Grades almost don't matter once you are above a certain point.
  8. I was just visiting Davis a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if you got the chance to see the Genome Center there, but they also do a lot of analytical research and have a great facility. I'm guessing you might also be interested in Dr. Lebrilla? Who all are you interested in working with there?
  9. I'm visiting at Colorado State right now. I applied for the biochem program though and not chemistry.
  10. Just found out I'm on the waitlist at Vanderbilt. To anyone who has been accepted there and will not be attending: Please let them know ASAP so us wait listens have a chance. Best of luck to everyone still waiting on schools.
  11. I don't think putting a time goal is a reasonable thing to do. A lot of the things that happen will be out of your control and you might be setting yourself up for disappoint and subsequent lowered motivation if you put a hard timeline on graduating. Getting through it as quickly as you can (provided you get the experience and education needed) is good, but I think maintaining a good life/work balance and mindset is more important than just destroying yourself to finish one year quicker.
  12. Thanks for this information. I saw recently on the results page that they sent out some more rejections. I haven't heard anything yet, so maybe that is good news? Guess I just have to keep waiting.
  13. What about schools that you are interviewing at? I'm assuming a suit would be appropriate for that occasion?
  14. Just got rejected from CU-Boulder. Oh well, at least there's no anticipation there anymore. Wasn't really holding my breath on that one.
  15. Just got invited to interview at Colorado State in their biochemistry department! So I guess I need to prepare for that.
