  1. Elle, I totally agree. I think we all will get where we want eventually. As for me, I had to remember if teaching is really what I want to do it shouldn't matter if I do not have the prestige of a phd right now. I should be focusing on where change can happen-- with our youth. Good luck to you and everyone reading this forum (in secret or not) and feeling down. It's not the end of the world--just reevaluate.
  2. I've applied to a program to obtain my teachers certificate. Thankfully the deadline had been extended. Must have been fate. I am seriously re evaluating if obtaining a phd in history is what I want. This is my second time applying and I have to remin myself I'm still quite young. All in all, I am glad I wasn't offered admission. I need to do some soul searching because I think I got too caught up in wanting an acceptance. I know people in history phd programs who are unhappy or who have the exact same job outlooks I have with a Masters. Not to be a Debbie downer to the rest of you guys. But I have realized quite a few things during this process. I will be going on with my life and figuring out what I want and don't. Best of luck to you all.
  3. :D well would you look at that ! That's awesome so excited for you!
  4. Happy bday, Ivan. I know this sounds crazy. However, around the first week of February, I vowed not to look at the results board for an entire week. Needless to say, it helped tremendously!
  5. Sorry Emory applicants. I was told all acceptances went out. They were only able to offer 2 American spots this year. The admissions committee met last week sometime. I was told they were very impressed with my application. I am not sad although this is my second time applying.
  6. Congrats to USM post, my alma mater. It's a great school. Ditto to Rice and UT Austin !
  7. I applied last year and got rejected by 6 (yes SIX) programs. I was heartbroken. My best advice is not to wallow in your grief. Look at it as an opportunity to better your app and decide if this is what you really want to do. I took those months to redo my entire app. It's much better. I haven't recieved any news either way but I have learned a lot of valuable lessons. If all else fails I think I will go into the public school system and reapply. Try to stay positive and that's the best advice I can offer you, others and myself as well.
  8. I whole heartedly agree my friend
  9. "There Goes My Everything" by Dr. Jason Sokol. Good read.
  10. Last year they didn't notify me until Presidnts day. I probably already got rejected because I didn't get an interview. But thank goodness I didn't pay anything for that app . Did you interview ?
  11. Hi ! I'm no expert and I have never read this book (ok this is starting off bad, lol) but I vaguely remember one of my POIs at Emory writing something on memory. Clifton Crais. Entitled "History Lessons" but his other work is primarily on South Africa so not sure of the connection but I hope this helps you. Cheers!
  12. Leaving my phone in my car while at work to keep from obsessively checking emails. Even though I know it's not results time. No self control!! Lol. That sucks about your transcripts. Nothing like it to rattle your nerves lol
  13. Hey did you try the IHS application for graduate applications ? It's worth a try. They reimburse you up to 350. I applied and got $100 this year. you can probably still apply now. hope that helps you https://www.theihs.org/ihs-phd-application-fee-waiver
  14. I think you would have until April 15 as far as financial aid, to respond to schools. I'm no expert so I hope someone else here knows. Also I think some of us should start hearing back towards the end of Jan. According to my hypothesis after stalking the results forum lol and experience from last round. Hope this helped.
