  1. Officially moving to Birmingham for my PhD!! super excited, and relieved to have the formal decision off my back. But now, where to live? When do leases generally begin there (I'm from an area where leasing is from May-May)? Are there houses available for rent? Public transportation? Biking? Are many places pet friendly? Are most places furnished or unfurnished? If anyone can give me some info, it would be awesome!! Thanks (:
  2. I formally accepted about two weeks ago and it feels great (: I had also turned down other offers very early in the game that I was SURE I wasn't going to attend. Others that I was actively considering I kept around until I sent in my formal acceptance. Then I declined. I still haven't heard back from one school at which I interviewed, but I assume at that it's a rejection. So no worries.
  3. I'm not entirely sure they can hold you to that "oh yeah, definitely," and it was kind of unfair for them to ask such a question and expect an answer they could hold you to. That being said, I feel like it is within your rights to kindly explain to the first school that while School 1 would be a good place for you, you believe you've found a great fit (more aligned with your interests/better location/good vibe/what have you) at a second institution, and that while you really appreciate their offer, you will be declining it. I don't think declining the first offer will burn any bridges, provided you never accepted an official offer and you don't wait too long to decline them. Schools are generally very understanding of declined admission. They would just prefer to hear sooner rather than later, so they can offer someone else what may be their dream school.
  4. Vityaz, it's no so much that I'm waiting on other schools (though I am still waitlisted by my previous first choice), it's just that it's such a huge decision. warprin, I haven't told them they are who I am seriously considering accepting, but I was under the impression that I've been officially offered admission, and that my letter should be coming soon. I think I will end up there, and as days pass I get more and more excited about it. It's just such a huge decision (and I'm horrible with decisions), and I'd feel comfortable with just a little more time. I'm not talking weeks, just maybe a little under one more week. Plus, I like having the official offer in my hand before I make decisions... makes it seem more real.
  5. I guess I should also inform you guys that they called and left me a voicemail (I was in class; couldn't pick up the phone), and I feel like I need to acknowledge their call, but I'm not ready to commit to them. I do see myself there, it's just such a huge decision to actually accept the offer of admission. Scary too. lol
  6. A little background... I did a skype interview with a program a little under two weeks ago. I was accepted the next day, and then went down for a campus visit four days later. Here we are one week after my campus visit (1 week 4 days since my admission) and the program called me wanting me to inform them of a decision. I am favoring this school as my number one choice, but feel a little miffed they want me to decide so early. I haven't even gotten the official letter in the mail yet. I understand they don't want me to string them along, but I'm not quite comfortable accepting yet. What do I do?
  7. Thanks for the info, and I'd really appreciate if you let me know if you turn them down
  8. Thanks for the info! I'm hoping to hear from them soon... Thanks for not holding the spot
  9. Has anyone heard about acceptance from UVA Biomedical Sciences (specifically neuroscience)? I attended their February 6-8 interview weekend, and the radio silence is killing me.
  10. I am currently an undergrad in WVU's behavioral neuroscience department, and it's a great program. Everyone is very friendly and happy overall, and collaboration is encouraged with the Neuroscience department on Health Sciences. Honestly, I think most people are happy here, so I think it depends more on what you want out of your graduate school experience, research, etc.

They have had several interviews, and still have more to come. So keep your head up! Also, once you interview there, they're very quick to let you know where you lie. I heard back from them not even a week after I interviewed. And the season is not yet over (: positive thoughts!
  12. That's awesome! Congratulations. I just got an interview with their Behavioral Neuroscience department day before yesterday! Are you coming to the interview weekend?
  13. I haven't heard from WVU... my source told me they didn't start discussing applicants until late last week, so I'm hoping the radio silence just means they're not done yet; not that I am softly rejected "/
