  1. Great advice so far. I would just add that from I got from the IRS website, part of your fellowship may not be taxable. Any amount spent on textbooks, required software, registration/student fees may be exempt. You need to be careful to save all pertinent receipts and to only omit academic related AND required expenses. For example, you cannot just upgrade your computer assuming that amount is part of your school expenses because you use your computer to do school work or research.
  2. Human development and Family Studies (HDFS). Good luck in your search.
  3. I've been using craigslist to get an idea of how much it would cost to live alone or with roommates. I also use google maps to determine the distance between apartments and the university. You can also find out if there is a bus stop near by or the walking distance if possible.
  4. ^That is my main concern at the moment. I have not heard anything of the sort from my department. Although I plan on asking when I visit later this month. There are a few "roommate requests" postings on Craigslist and I sure hope more pop up soon. It does not help that I have been watching Investigation Discovery Channel all week long non stop. At this point, I'm terrified my roommate will be a serial killer or I'll alone and attract a stalker. Lose-Lose situation
  5. Also looking for apartments in the area. My decision is not totally official yet but highly probable. Good luck to you both.
  6. I am totally biased as hinted by my username! I love the interdisciplinary nature of the program. I originally planned to apply to both programs but decided on HDFS for all 7 applications. At the end of the day, my decision was based on my desire to do mostly outreach work instead of building a career in academia which by the way I am not entirely opposed to. The HDFS programs I applied to were a perfect fit, I mean PERFECT. Depending on your options, you may have ample opportunities to engage in either/both path(s). If that is the case, it helps to focus on who your POI is, what he or she is interested in and what is the fit with the career goals. Also, look for best funding offers and research centers within the department and throughout the university. Still, if you have always dreamed of being called a "psychologist" then the decision is made....mostly.
  7. You can do this!!! 1) Expand your horizon. You would be amazed how many schools are doing similar research with little to no publicity. 2) Numerous schools focus on senior or major GPA. 3) Explain the low GPA if you must but I think the fact that you switched majors may play to your advantage. Once you found your passion, you clearly excelled. 4) Focus on your GRE. Scores for clinical psych are among the most competitive out there. 5) Your research experience makes it extremely difficult to ignore your application. High GRE scores will increase the likelihood of getting to that stage where they actually notice it. 6) By all means, if you can get your GPA to a at least a 3.5, do it because some schools may cut off anyone below that mark. Good luck!
  8. I gave up hope on Cornell and I'll hang on to Wisconsin for another week or two. As far as good news go, I did get accepted at Georgia and Mizzou. I had a phone interview with someone at Purdue two weeks ago and still no news. Given that a few acceptances have been posted from there, my chances are looking quite slim. I only needed one acceptance do I can't complain. I hope you get good news soon. It ain't over until it's over!!!!
  9. Cornell is one my top choices too Nyoramaria, sorry about the bad news. I hope it's the last of its kind. How were you notified.
  10. I applied to the same schools as well as UGA, Purdue and Mizzou
  11. I have been quite frustrated trying to find anything related to this program that is not too outdated. Please share the programs to which you applied along with any decision you may be aware of. Let's vent people!!!
