  1. Nice! You should have a lot of luck in Winter Park. I saw a ton of craigslist postings for 2/2s. Let me know what kind of information you get about the areas, what traffic is like, places to avoid, etc. I'm planning on flying in sometime in June to get things sorted out too.
  2. Hey there, Jonny-P (can I call you Jonny-P?)! Good to see there is another Knight on this board. I've had a lot of luck looking in the area just West of campus "winter park" area. LOTS of listings that seem very new or redone around 700ish for almost 1000 sq/ft. I'm not sure what you're looking for in a residence but I wanted something dog friendly and chill, and I think Winter park is good for that. I'll probably move early summer... Late June ish. I'm paranoid about missing out on some good listings by waiting too long. Good thing you're in Tampa. Not quite as far a trek to apartment hunt as from Austin.
  3. OMG! For a second I thought you meant The Mortal Engines Quartet. Check that series out when you finish Mortal Instruments My quilty pleasure is probably searching for apartments in Orlando and planning my best friend's bachelor party. When done at work, these become guilty pleasures for sure.
  4. No I hadn't. My POI at UCF told me to hold off while he tried to find me funding. My offer from LSU was great so I didn't think they'd be able to trump it. Then, on the last day of the time limit he set, they offered me. haha. Was a tough decision. I knew I would be happy at either university.
  5. I don't want to come off as a buzzkill, but if you still haven't heard anything from that last program it may be a rejection. I have lots of past experience in getting rejected, and half of them came in late April
  6. Thanks. I did accept. They wanted to know ASAP because if I didn't take the GTA then they wanted to pass it on to someone else before the deadline. Its a grad teaching assistantship with full tuition and fees + stipend and health insurance. Very similar to my offer from LSU. It was the hardest decision of my life. I liked both schools so much, but I'm confident I made the right choice. It's been a long ride. So glad to be done.
  7. I thought LSU was set in stone. I got a curveball of an offer yesterday, and now I am officially going to UCF. What a difference 24 hours can make! Congrats to everyone else on their good news.
  8. Gunna try and Revive this thread. Moving to Orlando this summer. Any tips? I'm planning on limiting my search to Oviedo unless I get better intel.
  9. Potential - I'd go Baton Rouge all the way. I'm from the South so heat doesn't bother me, and I'm willing to bet that Winter is 6 months long in Buffalo. everyone else moving to BR - I'll post what information I come across during my searches. Maybe we can start a list of solid places. I'd love to get into a town-home or rent a house even, but I'll take a cheap, undergrad-free, apartment too. My main concern is finding a place that is 1) Safe, 2) Close, 3)not too expensive. Seemed like the area just south of campus had good ratings, and cheap rent.
  10. A few more tips: Media mail is great for ALL things media. It applies to books, movies, games, magazines, all that shiz. And its charged per pound so you could get a pretty substantial box full for cheap. It's almost ALWAYS cheaper to send less boxes. If a package costs 90$ to ship but its a lot of possessions that you could split into 2 boxes- don't do it. Large boxes shipped UPS or FEDEX have a "dimensional weight". Meaning a box that is 24^3 has a "D Weight" of 96 pounds (just an estimate, I can't remember off the top of my head ), therefore you can put up to 96lbs of stuff in that box for the same price as putting 10lbs in it. Shipping UPS Ground is your friend. Can be verrry slow, but is usually cheaper lb for lb than USPS. USPS is going bankrupt for a reason. Plus all UPS packages are insured for free up to 100$ (1.70$ per hundred after that). Some stores have freight options too if need be, but I'd avoid this. They use a 3rd party freighter to pack it so you are paying the difference. I managed a UPS store so I may have other tips to post as I remember them. Happy Packing!
  11. Same here. Moving for school in the fall. Looking for details on where the look, best companies, etc...
  12. geek- It was definitely up there! haha. I'm just a native Texan so I was looking forward to staying here a little. I'm actually very excited about LSU. It's a great fit and I have some really great opportunities available.
  13. NVM. Got my answer last night around 10. Rejected from Texas State . It really doesn't bother me though! Congrats to those that got in! I have several friends there and have done a few workshops, so I can say the program and facilities are exceptional. ENJOY CENTRAL TEXAS!
  14. Should I even wait for Texas State? I have a really generous offer from LSU that I don't think Texas State could top (full tuition + Stipend). I haven't received much in terms of funding from the other programs so I doubt I'd receive much (if anything) from Texas State if I got in. I don't know. Maybe I'm being irrational. I'm just tired of not having something set in stone.
  15. ecologaia- It really is frustrating. I could end this whole thing with ONE EMAIL, but I can't part with the idea that just maaaaaaaaaaaybe Texas State pulls through with a better offer. At this point I'd take a rejection just so I could be done with it all!
