  1. I'm so glad to hear everything worked out for you as well! Congratulations! It's kind of nice to have someone else on here going to Boulder, too! So far I'm enrolled in three classes: Topics in Latin Poetry (LATN 5044), Topics in Art and Archaeology (CLAS 5169), and The Roman Republic (CLAS 5081). Have you enrolled in classes yet? I'm super excited, but I definitely understand feeling nervous!

    Faraday- Thanks for the info!
  3. I'm really glad that I'm not the only one who has to wait until the end of May/June to go look...It's definitely been kind of difficult so far because so many places seem to be available now and aren't open to pre-leasing... As far as the actual housing search goes, I'd also advise checking padmapper. I've been using it and been finding it very helpful, since you can save places and it gives you results from craigslist and a couple of other sites!
  4. Cybelle- Awesome! I'm definitely attending too- just paid my deposit today! Funnily enough, Colorado is one of the only states I haven't been to...I haven't been able to visit yet unfortunately, but it looks lovely from the pictures, and I'm hoping to fly out for a short visit to scout out some apartments at the end of May. My SO will be joining me in Colorado, so we're primarily looking for 1 bedroom/studio apartments. Were are you from?
  5. Well, my waitlist saga has come to an end. Rejection from Michigan, and funding declined by Florida State. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear! I hope you get better news!
  6. I'm bumping this thread. I'm almost certainly attending CU Boulder this fall. I'm going to be doing the MA program in Classics, and I'd love to get in contact with anyone else who's going to be attending, regardless of program! It would be nice to get to know some people before arriving!
  7. I'm still waiting to hear from an actual waitlist and a waitlist on funding at another program...
  8. I understand the indecision, as I'm in the same boat. It couldn't hurt to ask for an extension- the worst they can say is no, and in that case, it sounds as though you know what you should do.
  9. Thanks! I hope you hear from the grad school soon! I would really think that unless there's a major issue you'll be admitted, but I understand completely wanting to be cautious! Let us know how it turns out!
  10. My first coping mechanism was to contact the program and try to get an update, but I'm not sure that helped much, as you can see from my previous post. The program wouldn't tell me where exactly I am on the waitlist, just that there's quite a few people before me, so while I have a little bit of a better idea, it still seems like it's up in the air and dependent on who accepts and who declines. I'm betting at this point that I probably won't hear anything before April 15th. So...on to coping mechanism #2: eat copious amounts of chocolate (and maybe through some wine drinking in there as well), hope for a better funding offer from one of my accepted programs so my decision will be easier, and overall try not to think about the waitlist issue until I'm forced to make the decision in about a week and a half...
  11. Just got an email from the program I'm waitlisted at in response to my asking for an update. The graduate program coordinator said that unfortunately there are a lot of people on the wait list, and my chances are "not very strong at this stage." It's my top choice program, so I'm feeling pretty bummed right now, and I still have the April 15th deadline to consider for one of the programs I was admitted to. It definitely feels like a giant game of chicken.
  12. Hi kittyk- So I actually just recently had this happen to me! I was contacted by the graduate admissions director for the department I applied to and told that the department was offering me admission and had forwarded the decision to the graduate school, and that I should expect to hear officially from the graduate soon after. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything, and upon logging into the online system, I saw I was rejected. I ended up calling the department and the graduate school admissions office, and after a lot of waiting and phone tag, I found out that the rejection notice was due to a clerical error. So in my case, it ended up that I was actually admitted. From everything I was told and read while panicking, it seems really rare.

Hi all! I've been admitted to UC-Boulder, and right now it's my top choice to attend in the fall! I've never been to Boulder (or Colorado), and since I'm from Rhode Island, it would be a pretty big move for me. My SO is planning to come with me, and I've started looking at apartments in the area to get an idea about prices. I was glad to see from the earlier posts that the transportation system is good, because it looks I may end up living in one of the suburbs. Does anyone have any advice for moving to Boulder and finding an affordable apartment? I'd really like to stay under $900 a month with utilities if possible, since I only have a small stipend right now, and my SO will need to find a job. Is late May/early June too late to fly out to look at potential apartments? I see that a lot of people are already starting to lease for fall. Also, are there any areas that aren't so great to live in? I see from an earlier post that Longmont has a higher crime rate, but how bad is it? Since my SO also needs to find a job, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the economic situation is? Is it possible to find a job in the area? My SO is not really a school person, so he only has an associate's. He's thinking about taking online courses to earn a certificate or bachelor's. Any advice would be appreciated!
  14. I was accepted to one program more than a month ago, and I'm still waiting on my formal acceptance letter from the graduate school, as well. My wait is partially due to a clerical error that resulted in the graduate school listing me as a rejection, though. I hope everyone gets their letters soon!
  15. I'm in a similar situation. I too am waitlisted at my top choice program, and have been accepted to another program with funding. It's not full funding, but it's the only funding I've gotten, and I need some kind of funding in order to attend. I haven't heard anything from the program I was waitlisted at since they informed me in February, and even then if I had not emailed to check on my status, I may not have even found out that I'd been waitlisted. Since the April 15th deadline is approaching soon, I emailed the program again this past week to find out if there was any update on the situation. I really don't want to have to make a decision without knowing if there's any chance I might get in to my top choice program, but at the same time, unless anything changes between now and April 15th, I don't think I can turn down the offer with funding, unless I decide that I'm okay with not going to grad school right away. I really can't say what's best for you to do. The only advice I can offer is that you may want to email or call the program and ask for an update, and if you are dependent on funding for attending grad school, you may want to accept the offer from your second choice if you don't hear from your first choice by April 15th. If on the off chance you accept and do get accepted at your first choice, you may still have the option to back out of your enrollment, depending on the school. From what I've read, it's not necessarily considered good form, and you'll probably lose any deposit you put down, but it does happen. Anyway, I understand the feeling. Hang in there!
