  1. I'm planning on moving at the end of July - problem is, I'm in Chicago until then! I'm having a hard time finding places that aren't undergrad oriented; I'm not really fresh out of college anymore, so rooming with someone 4-7 years younger than me isn't all that attractive (living with my 19 yo brother has been a challenge lol). I'm working with a couple realtors but they don't seem to think non-student apartments exist. Anyone have suggestions?
  2. Hi, I'm in Bio Anth! Any ideas where to start looking for housing?
  3. I will be starting my MA at Texas State this fall! Now I just need to find an apartment around San Marcos that isn't flooded :/

Oh man, wishing you the best finding something.

  4. Wow, thanks for all the replies! I'm really alone in this application process; I graduated from college 3 years ago and my advisers have never been helpful anyway, so this is really wonderful. Yeah, my interests are pretty niche, but there are certainly more than 4 schools that interest me. I particularly like what someone said about "would you rather not go than go to some schools" - definitely NOT true! I've been eliminating a lot based on location, which is honestly silly. I'd much rather be in Texas right now than be bored and frustrated at home in Chicago lol. Still, I'm only applying to schools that I'm pretty certain I'll get into. I have a much better strategy this time around! Thanks again everyone! I'll definitely be coming back with more questions.
  5. I definitely learned one lesson from my failed applications for this fall: I only applied to two schools! I was concerned about application fees and also a bit too confident about my chances, heh. I've upped my list to four now (down from six since one's deadline has passed and the other doesn't offer a master's, just straight PhD). Of course there are all sorts of reasons to apply to a large number of schools - but what's the minimum number of schools to apply to, you think? Thanks!
  6. Took some time to regroup and plan a new attack this fall - I feel a bit better about my chances this time.

Thank you all so much :) Anyone at (or know anyone at) Michigan State, Ohio State, UMass-Amherst, or UW-Milwaukee? I'll definitely be visiting this time!

  7. Struck out on Michigan State. Not sure what else to do, or if I even want to reapply...
  8. Still no news...time go to to a St. Paddy's Day party and forget about everything till Monday!

  9. Hi all, SIU-Carbondale just posted admission decisions on the system. The dept already told me they couldn't accept me because the physical/forensics prof was only taking one PhD student. Still waiting on Michigan State...
  10. I broke and called Michigan State just now - they sent out letters yesterday, so any day now!
  11. Still waiting to hear from Michigan State for physical anthro. VERY nervous!

  12. Hi all, heard back from Southern Illinois for physical anthro (rejection, late January), still waiting on Michigan State for the same...blurg!
