  1. Yeah... the tuition for the school I didn't get funding for is $38,000 a year, and it's only #58 on the top 100 list. The school I did get funding for is #94.... lol I guess I could make up for it if I got a good post-doc position.
  2. Well I'm sure this question has been asked before, but... I recently accepted a fully funded offer with a TA position for an economics PhD at the same institution that I received my bachelors degree from. It is a lesser known state school. I got admission to some other schools that I would have rather attended, but those offers were not funded....... I should mention that I believe my undergraduate institution is a better fit for my research interests overall. The only reason I considered going to other schools (similarly ranked) is because I heard that it looks better on your resume. Did I make the right decision? Will my chances of finding a tenure track position post graduation be severely hurt? I'd be fine with going to any university to teach so long as the position is tenure track, and I can publish. Would trying to diversify my resume by attending summer workshops, internships, publishing as much as possible, etc. etc. help me later in the job market? Thanks
  3. I should also mention that my undergraduate institution is a better match for my research interests overall -- the only reason I considered other schools is because I've heard it looks better on your resume in the job market.....

  5. For that matter, while we're at it, would it also be in bad taste to contact my #1 school and let them know about the other offer I got? @_@
  6. So, I was given a fully funded admissions offer + TA job at one of my safety schools. I'm very happy about the offer, and at the end of the day will probably end up attending there, but I am still waitlisted at my #1 school and waiting to hear back from them. Should I reply to the school stating that I am still waiting, or is it the norm to say nothing until you're 100% that you'll either accept the offer or decline it? Thanks
  7. Q. How do I check my application status? A. The Graduate School will notify you when a decision has been made. The department will not release any information over the phone or by email. Please do not inquire. Erh.... the website for the program does say this. @_@
  8. Hmmm.... so applications were due Feb 1st. FIrst round decisions went out March 5th. Is there such a thing as contacting them too soon, so as to seem impatient and desperate? Am I over thinking this? =P
  9. I'm in the same situation also. I have an open application to a relatively small PhD program in economics. I am aware that they sent BOTH first round acceptances and rejections on March 5th, but I heard NOTHING. I assume I am waitlisted, or that the email got lost in the aether.... lol If waitlisted, should I email the school around March 20th asking about my status, and reaffirming my desire to attend if admitted? This is my first choice school. I want OFF this waitlist. >.<
