  1. I was a biology major and applied to only 1 program which accepts out of field applicants with no SLP pre reqs. So I had a spanish professor and a biology professor write my 2 letters. It really depends on the school requirements.
  2. I took more like a year and a half off to really figure out what I wanted to do. I worked at a pediatric speech clinic and then worked as a nanny. I got accepted to grad school and start this summer. It definitely doesn't hurt your application if you have a gap year - I spoke with a few girls in my program and they did the same thing. Gives you some real world experience to add to your resume.
  3. I grew up in Baton Rouge and went to undergrad at LSU, although don't know much about their SLP program as I'm going somewhere else. The LSU area where you'd be spending the majority of your time has a typical college town feel. LSU is a gorgeous campus. People are super friendly in my experience. Great food.
