  1. I'm a 1st year ETA but I do have two years of teaching experience through teach for america. I opted-in to the Taipei program. (But now I'm worried no one else will be placed there!)
  2. I received a ETA grant for Taiwan, but my boyfriend applied to a research one in Kyiv, so I can't wait to hear either! I don't have your level of stress but I sometimes feel like I am almost as nervous. The odds are definitely um, ever in your favor. So few applicants! Glad I could help to alleviate any stress!! I pressed Yeng to tell me more about the IIE's take of the crisis but she just repeated "no plans to cancel at this time" but could change and they will notify everyone as soon as they make that decision, if they make that decision.
  3. Spoke to Alyssa Yeng -- she said Ukraine should hear by the end of this week. They are waiting for approval from State Department. As of right now, no plans to cancel, program is expected to continue. If something should change, all candidates will be notified for sure.
  4. Hi Taiwan people, Where are you all placed? (Sorry if someone already asked this -- I haven't read the forum in a while.) / Is anyone else placed in Taipei?
  5. I am nearing the end of my 2-year commitment with TFA. Where are you going to be placed/where were you originally placed before the deferral?
  6. Hi Shogun1, this is no doubt tragic but doesn't necessarily have to impact Western Ukraine. Where is your host institution, if you have one? Try to relax (although this is very difficult in deed). I bet you will hear soon! (I actually have $10 riding on you finding out tomorrow -- @irockafe bet on later in the week.) Saw this tweet today: https://twitter.com/FulbrightPrgrm/statuses/459699320208760834 Granted it was originally posted on April 25th, I doubt Fulbright will cancel the program if it's tweeting about it just a few days earlier. (Edit - Did not read far back enough to see everyone and their mother on this forum has already posted about this tweet! But still hopeful it's a good sign!) Anyways, just want to say you are not alone in your worry over Ukraine crisis. My google alert updates me on Ukraine news every few hours too! It's a terrible situation but hopefully it won't impact your Fulbright candidacy. - Alyssa
  7. Accepted to Taiwan! And there was a P in the subject line.
  8. Hi all, I had a really good conversation with Jonathan Akeley on the phone today. I called about Taiwan ETA but this might apply to other East Asia countries too. Basically he told me there is no definite deadlines for any program. He obviously doesn't want to torture us and will send out notifications as soon as he has approval. Unfortunately he doesn't have any information about when he will receive approvals from the State department. While it's possible to hear tomorrow, it's unlikely. When I pushed him to give me a possible date, he said perhaps at the end of next week but that's no guarantee. As far as the mythologized April 15th deadline is concerned, he laughed good naturedly and asked me who gave me all this date. He is not really aware they are trying to get notifications out by the 15th. For him, March 15 is a better deadline-- he wants us to know as early as possible. This isn't really good news for those of us waiting desperately for news. But I feel a little comforted from talking to him. He seems genuinely understanding of my nerves. I am going to try not worry for a few weeks.
  9. In response to your question, Yogachick, I emailed Kelly Chang, the ETA coordinator on Taiwan side of the Fulbright. She said we should hear around mid April. I don't think this necessarily means we will. But I certainly hope we hear within the next 2-3 weeks.
  10. I proctored a 4 hour exam today, during which I wasn't allowed anything that could distract myself, not even a pen. Trying not to worry about Fulbright was torture.
  11. For those of you who applied to Taiwan, I emailed the ETA program coordinator yesterday. Here is her response: From: Kelly Chang <kchang@fulbright.org.tw> Date: Thu, Mar 27, 2014 at 11:50 PM Subject: RE: ETA Inquiry To: You should receive the result around mid of April from IIE in New York. Best, Kelly
