  1. ^^^ What she said. And if you were wondering about the 2 Year BSW program I was referring to Windsor.
  2. Thanks. I really do appreciate the encouragement. I'm worried that if my grades weren't competitive enough for Windsor than I have no shot at Toronto and especially not Laurier. But, it isn't over until it's over and I'm really trying to see the positive in that! When the program filled last year and the waitlist closed I called their BSW program to inquire. Basically the 2 year BSW is there professional year courses for the current BSW students. So they offer spots to those students first, then to people who have a 3 year degree (no Honours). The reason why students with a 4 year degree (Honours) are considered last is because we meet the requirements for higher learning. I am obviously going to wait to hear back from Laurier and U of T before I become too hard headed. But, seeing as this is my second year applying and I really have no money to update courses and I don't want to waste my academic reference's time for a 3rd reference letter I am unsure if I will apply again next year. While I feel like my future is so uncertain, there are also many possibilities. Good luck to everyone still waiting
  3. Thanks, b39. I called Nancy and left a message to see if there is any way she is able to clarify as to why this might have been (could I have filled out something wrong on the application sheet?). I'm sure she cannot give me much information, but I would really like to know why I was wait listed last year and not this year. It sucks right now in this moment, and it will suck tomorrow and this sucky feeling will probably last all week, but I know it won't last forever and that life goes on. It just sucks knowing that I cannot become a social worker unless I go to school for it. I was told because I already have a 4 year degree that my chances of getting into the 2 year BSW are extremely low (apparently they are more geared toward people who have a 3 year general degree...).
  4. I just received a notice reading "Not Admitted" to U windsor's 2 Year MSW program. I am honestly so upset because I applied last year with minimal experience and not having taken a Stats course and got wait listed and I received a rejection this year even though I took a stats course and got an A- in it AND I beefed up my experience by volunteering with a distress line AND acquired a part time job educating children about topics in social awareness. I just don't understand how I got wait listed year and not this year I applied to U of T and Laurier as well, but seeing as how my ROSI status has not changed I doubt I got accepted. I honestly wish I could just run away haha. Sorry to be such a negative Nancy. I do want to genuinely wish congratulations to the people that got accepted.
  5. From what I remember last year, I think there are 30 spots available for the two year track. Not certain about the one year program.
  6. I can completely identify with you. This is my second year applying for the 2 Year MSW track. I think my lack of experience really hurt me last year, so this year I did my best to beef up my volunteer experience and was fortunate enough to get a part-time job running an educational program at a counselling centre. Hopefully it helps this time around. Good luck!
  7. As many other people said, I feel exactly the same way! What a roller coaster we are on haha. I think the best thing to do is take it a day at a time. That's what I keep telling myself, anyways. To pass the time I've been going to the gym, crocheting, and heading home to Windsor. Little milestones help (i.e. valentine's day coming up, girl's night, my birthday, anniversary, etc). What is everyone else doing to pass them time?
  8. Thanks! Do you think Windsor might be the same with their status?
  9. Everything is submitted and I feel a HUGE weight off my shoulders! Except for one thing... I mailed my application to both Windsor and Laurier before the holidays. Through Canada Post tracking I see that they have been delivered and signed for. However, when I check my U Windsor account it still says my application is incomplete/waiting on documents, and I haven't received an e-mail from Laurier stating they have my application (I could be wrong, but I was under the impression they send an e-mail). Should I be worried if the status hasn't changed or if I haven't received a confirmation e-mail by next week? I know this is a busy time for the admissions offices, but I obviously want to make sure everything is received by the deadline.
  10. Thanks Jenste! I'll look in to that. @Blh22, That's what I thought was strange too. I looked back through my transcripts though, and I think I have enough social science credits. Like I said, the coordinator who I was talking to was not very helpful at all, barely looked through the transcript I brought her, and basically told me the GTA schools were too competitive for me. But, I'll give it a try anyways.
  11. Apparently I didn't meet requirements in terms of number of social science courses. I come from a drama background as my major, but I minored in Communication (which is a social science, no?) and took some women's studies courses. I just looked at my transcript and if Comm/Art History counts, then it should be enough. Weird. I think I am going to apply. I mean, the worst they'll say is no.
  12. Funny enough, I went there last year to ask them about it, and they said I didn't meet the requirements in both social science courses and lack of experience (honestly, the Coordinator wasn't helpful at all and she completely forgot about our meeting). I *might* look in to it again, just so I'm not putting all of my eggs into one basket. Thanks for the suggestion, Jenste! I'll definitely look in to those options as well. Just really trying to keep my options open Time to buckle down!
  13. Hello everyone! This will be my second year applying for an MSW. Last year I limited myself to Windsor, believing my grades weren't good enough for admittance to universities in the GTA (I have a mid-level B average). This year I am going to reapply to Windsor's 2 Year Regular track MSW program, as well as U of T's (still determining which area of focus). Since I don't hold a BSW I have also been thinking about applying to U Vic's Distance Ed BSW, as well as Lakehead's 1 year HBSW (although I a just started working at a counselling centre on a 1 year contract that ends in September…). While my GPA is really only at admittance level, I believe my lack of experience held me back. When I applied last year I had only been volunteering casually as a Puppeteer at CAS, as well as an educator with an eating disorder clinic. Prior to that I had worked in the media industry as a project coordinator which I failed to put on my application, believing it wasn't relevant. However, this year I started working as a program coordinator at a counselling centre (yay!) and will begin volunteering with a distress line next week. I hope that the added experience is enough and holds relevance. I really want to get a job that will allow me to work with people (my preference being at-risk youth) in a setting that allows me to counsel them and use my dramatic arts background. Aside from the schools I'm applying to, does anyone else have any suggestions of other schools/programs I should consider? I don't wish to limit my options. Anywho, good luck, everyone! I had a really good experience in the boards last year. Everyone was so helpful and encouraging. Great support system
  14. Well, at least the waiting is over. Notified this morning that I wasn't admitted the Windsor's Masters of Social Work program. While I am extremely sad and a little disappointed, at least I know. I do plan on applying again, as well as looking in to other options, and in the mean time increase my experience. I know I want to work with people, and this little bump in the road won't stop me. Thanks for the support, everyone. Good luck to those still waiting, congrats to those who were accepted, and to those who didn't get in: try, try again! If this is something you are passionate about, you will do it by any means. Good luck <3
  15. Congrats! I'm still waiting on Windsor myself, so if you stick with Laurier maybe a spot will open up for me Haven't given up hope yet! I was looking back on threads from 2013 and some people found out well into July. Keeping my fingers crossed. Just wish the process didn't take so long. The waiting is torture. Patience isn't my strong suit, so this is a really good lesson for me in developing that skill.
