  1. NS for Peru Full Research Grant. Oh well! Upward and onward. Going to graduate school for an MPH/JD dual degree, so I have great stuff to look forward to. And I don't have to give away my cat for a year! Things work out. PS to folks who are waiting-- the message was actually in my spam! It came in on April 17th but I didn't see it until I searched through my junk mail this evening. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting! Y'all seem like extraordinary folks and I am sending you all good vibes for P notifications and great years abroad.
  2. Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Chile... come on Peru!
  3. Is the person for Central America different than the rep for South America? Also, maybe she just meant that there's no "new news" about the status of grants, which could mean a million things from we haven't made final decisions yet to we're still waiting on the State Department.
  4. Mexico, Chile, Brazil... come on Central + South America!
  5. I applied for a research grant. Unfortunately, Peru has dropped from 12 grants when I applied to 8 in December to 5 as of a few weeks ago. Still optimistic, though!
  6. Yes, and a friend of mine also learned that she got a research Fulbright grant to Chile! I think she heard this past Friday. I'm waiting on Peru-- what about you? So far we have Mexico and Chile, ya? I am feeling good things about South + Central America sending out notifications soon. Sending good vibes your way!
  7. My guess would be that cantthinkofagoodusername is referring to the 15 day government shutdown this past fall. IIE operates under the State Department, and was likely required to send their non-essential personnel home and put the Fulbright projects on hold. The shutdown happened in early October, just before applications were due, so it might have interfered with a time that IIE usually uses to begin organizing/prepping for the wave of incoming applications.
  8. Ah that's so exciting! I applied for a research grant to conduct oral histories with community health workers and study the on the ground implementation of recent public health policy aimed at curbing rates of maternal mortality among indigenous women. I'd be based in Lima but would hope to do in-residence stays elsewhere in the country. Do you know where you'd be teaching out of? I think you're right that we could be in for a longer wait-- but Peru has such a strong relationship with IIE/Fulbright (Lima is Fulbright's Regional Educational Advising Coordination site for all of South America and Peru has a well-established Fogarty scholarship program in Lima) and I was hoping that might mean things would speed along. We'll see! Keeping my fingers crossed and sending out good vibes for us both! EDIT: Also, here's the Fulbright Peru webpage! Not much extra information but you can see the Fulbright Board that will decide our fates! Haha. http://www.fulbright.pe/e_about_us.php
  9. Also, I might be going crazy but I could have sworn that the Fulbright site listed 8 research grants for Peru when I applied- now it's listed as only 5. I know funding might be an issue and perhaps that's causing cuts in the number of grants available, but has anyone else observed something like this?
  10. Are there any other folks out there who applied to Peru? I only see a few on past years' excel sheets but I'm sure there must be more of us! I feel like I check my email every five minutes nowadays. Also, to folks who are concerned about April 15th graduate school deposit deadlines-- most of the programs that I had applied to that allow for a one-year deferment give you up until early August to request that deferment, and you don't lose your deposit. That might be true of your programs, too. Sending good vibes to everyone.
