  1. I am certain it is never a matter of lack of applicant pool interest: the fellowship nearly always has acceptance rates below 3%. See you in July at the program review :-)
  2. I'm not sure if this is helpful, but as far as timing goes: we were notified of our awards on April 2 last year and this year got confirmation of our renewal only yesterday April 1. (Conjecture, proof left to the motivated reader) I suspect they're working through the awards from the existing fellows and the new fellow notifications shouldn't be that far away.
  3. I thought so too, but in hindsight (which is always 20/20), it brought a lot into focus of what kinds of science they are interested in. I won it in my senior year of undergrad, and I would say that I had about 0% confidence that I would win because the prompts are so specific for someone just getting into research. My advice would be to think very hard about the program of study and how that fits with research -- that has to be absolutely key to how they evaluate you because it was the only thing I can think of that set me apart.
  4. We weren't told, or at least it wasn't in any of the documents I received. That information may only be released after accepting the fellowship.
  5. Negative. In NSF-GRFP all applicants who weren't auto-rejected for not following the proposal requirements receive reviews.
  6. I got it, my project was in computational science / mathematics. And I got DOE CSGF too so I'll be deferring. Good luck to everybody!
  7. Just got the DOE CSGF. Maybe I should stop complaining about the NSF review process.
  8. What broader impact does the researcher herself/himself ("personal attributes") have to "bring to society" other than bringing diversity to the scientific community ? The white/privileged was meant to say that I don't bring diversity, and that seems to be a problem that the reviewer had with my BI.
  9. Right...I had been tutoring mathematics roughly 10 hours a week for close to 3 years. If that's not enhancing access to STEM education, I'm not sure what else can be done.
  10. ^^ One of my BI reviews. Does anyone else get the impression that certain parts of the review like "broader impact the applicant has to society as a researcher and other personal attributes" means "is privileged and white" ? This BI review seems really harsh against me, even perhaps unfair, when I mentioned communication of results and tutoring efforts(thought not specifically to underprivileged groups). Does anyone have any comments or thoughts?
  11. It's a Demo site, not the real live GRFP site.
  12. I keep hearing that and I understand why people feel that way, but it's kind of to be expected when the ending was filmed after season 2. A lot of character development is going to be at odds with a pre-taped ending.
  13. Why the notation "G/VG"? Isn't the notation just "Very Good" or "Good" ?
  14. EST here -- I'll be staying up as needed.
