  1. I'm applying to USC for a PhD in Social Work in the fall and have made contact with a faculty member who works directly with my area of interest. She has made herself available to me over the summer by phone to continue what has been a positive set of back and forth emails (She has gone as far as to say that she thinks I would be a "great addition to her research group" based on my initial introduction of my research interests which she calls "fascinating"). I have my first phone meeting with her on Monday and I am looking for some guidance here about any tips for how I should approach the call. I plan on reviewing some of her most recent publications just to be clear about the language she uses to talk about some of the topics of interest that we share. Would you have any other suggestions for how I might approach this conversation. Should I have specific questions prepared like an interview, should I just be taking a listening posture? Should I ask her about how I might be able to make myself more competitive between now and my application? Should I tell her that I am moving out to California a year early and ask if there are any opportunities to collaborate?
  2. I will be applying to the PhD program at USC in the fall. Have you heard from them yet?
