  1. Thanks TakeruK, this is very helpful!
  2. Thank you so much! Those are great answers to my confusion.
  3. I already completed my application, and am waiting for the decision. I haven't heard back from the program yet, neither a decision nor an invitation for interview. The school website does not indicate whether the POI or the department will make the final admission decision. When I emailed him, I suggested that I applied to the program and have strong interests in working in his lab. He did not indicate if he's recruiting students this year in his response, but I assume he is, because otherwise he would just tell me so, wouldn't he?
  4. Hi, guys, one of the POIs that I am interested in working with is visiting my school next week, and he agreed to meet with me shortly and can keep in touch by phone or email later on. Since this isn't an official interview, I don't think he is going to lead the conversation. I assume it will be short, maybe around 10 min or so, what kind of questions about her lab or research should I ask? What should be the focus of my questions? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi, I am applying for PhD in biomedial engineering at Cornell U and Tufts U. Their admissions are rolling basis, and the official deadline is 01/15/2015. Within what range of submitting date will be consider as relatively early given that deadline? My complex is that I have extremely heavy load near the end of this semester, and have little time to work on my statement of purpose. Even though I have a SOP ready for other schools and would only need to tailor it for these two programs, I still feel like editing more before submitting. That means I probably won't be working on applications to these two schools until after the final exams on 20th. Would that be late considering a rolling admission? Thank you in advance!
  6. Thank you so much for you response. My visit was nice and I really liked the labs there, especially the working environment.
  7. Thank you for your suggestion. I was also considering asking about their personal experience with the professor and their opinions about the program. Good luck with your application!
  8. Hi, I decided to pursue a PhD degree in biomedical engineering program at Cornell University. I will visit one of the labs that I am interested in on Wednesday. The professor is not going to be there, but one of her students will show me around. I am not sure how to get prepared for this visit, since it's not a formal interview. I'm not trying to impress her graduate student, but I guess it may do help to my application if I can ask some sophisticated questions rather than the very fundamental ones. Does anyone have any ideas about what kind of questions I should ask? Thank you in advance.
  9. Thank you, I'm definitely going to retake GRE, but I guess my priority would be to write a strong SOP. Thanks again!
  10. Hey guys, I intend to apply for the BME PhD program at Harvard U. Since I know how competitive it is, I don't expect much from it. I took my GRE, and unfortunately I didn't get ideal score for Verbal session, which is below 70%. Q session was 167. My undergrad GPA is 3.73, TAed 3 courses in BME. I totally appreciate that low scores might qualify my admission to HarvU, but I at least want to give it a shot. Lack of research experience is probably one of my biggest weakness, since I only had one summer of research and am currently in the same lab where I worked for last summer. Challenging as it may be, I still hope to know if there's any way I could convince the committee of my enthusiasm in researching with my SOP. Or if anyone can be straightforward to tell me 'It's impossible', I'll still be appreciative. Thank you guys
