Anybody else accepted to Brown?? Super psyched!

Hey everyone. So I've received two amazing offers, one from Duke Romance Studies and one from Upenn Africana Studies (both PhD programs). Funding is around the same, and both have really awesome scholars I'd want to work with. Duke gives the advantage of growing the skill of language teaching, however UPenn Africana Studies is much more aligned with the field I see myself teaching in. Both programs are super interdisciplinary. I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. Can anyone speak on one versus the other? Help me out here! Thanks!

Hey all, just found out from a POI tonight that I was admitted into UPenn's Africana Studies Program. I don't think they've let all the students who are admitted know yet, and I think my POI let me know early. Super psyched. Any word on Brown Africana Studies?

Same here to the Northwestern reject! I see folks have been hearing back from Brown, but I still haven't heard anything. Any news on how ya'll heard? And the UPenn interview went well I think (thank you for asking!), but we'll see! Waiting to hear back from them. And hello to the fellow IRT person out there! It's nice to see IRT alums in grad school doing big things.

Where did everyone do undergrad? I went to Swarthmore. Africana Studues major, Latin American studies minor.

I heard back from the department this past weekend. And yes! It does seem like a big possibility we'll be in a cohort together! What's your research interests?
