  1. That's an impressive quant score, so that may work to your favor. Differential equations and Multivariable Calculus are fundamental in any engineering curriculum and will be absolutely essential if you are to pursue a graduate engineering degree. If you choose not to take these courses your best bet would be to contact potential BME faculty directly, as not having these courses will likely filter you out in the admissions process. You could always look into biology programs focused on applications, maybe even parter up with a BME professor somewhere down the line. So I would say your chances are slim without some kind of "in" with the program or a faculty member.
  2. There's really no right or wrong answer to this. I've heard many admission reps say five schools at least. Two reach, two with a pretty good chance, and one fallback. I personally will be applying to seven schools. From my understanding this is the norm, although I've known people who applied to 12 schools (this is probably too many). Source: Grad Fairs, extensive internet research, conversations with faculty.
  3. I will be applying direct PhD in mechanical engineering. Verbal: 160 Quant: 159 I'm concerned about my quant score. I got hung up on a couple really tough problems and it cost me a lot of time. I definitely don't think I performed to the best of my abilities. My target schools are UC Berkeley, Stanford, GA Tech, Michigan, Purdue My other qualifications are 3.76 GPA, I did an REU last summer at Purdue (I'm not from Purdue), and I have a paper on the way with research I did as an independent study last year. My paper will likely not be submitted before I apply to grad school though. My LOR's should be fairly strong. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
