  1. The Ohio State University The Ohio State University SLP Class of 2017 https://www.facebook.com/groups/1585689061708624/ It's a closed group so just ask to join!
  2. Awesome! I pm'd you. I was trying to make a page but I think I need to add a friend to create it.
  3. My main advice would be to start the application process as early as possible. Ask to sit down and talk with your letters of rec at the start of the fall semester and maybe even draft some of your statements of purpose (some schools have several different required essays... which I was not expecting) over the summer. I waited to do all of these things, along with taking the GRE, around October and I was stressed beyond belief (the application process plus a fulltime course load plus normal life was not fun). So please learn from me and do not do that. Ha. Oh and regarding the GRE, look into Kaplan practice tests in your area. My university hosts one on campus every couple of months and they are completely free and give you a better idea of how an actual test will feel like. You have to listen to them try and sell you their prep classes and books at the end of the test but they give you access to some useful free tips and sources as well.
  4. So after a lot of debate and making many pros and cons lists, I have decided to attend OSU! Anyone else planning on going and/or made an admitted students facebook page yet?
  5. Thanks! The whole waiting thing is killing me.
  6. Thanks to everyone who has responded! I really wish I could have made their open house. UMD is one of my top choices based off of information I can find online but I have discovered that meeting with a department can give a significantly more accurate feel of a program. I visited campus during my spring break but it was completely dead. They were also on spring break and everything was locked up and I think I saw maybe eight people total. I guess they did warn me. Ha. BUT I still need to hear back from financial aid from UMD before I make my final decision (has anyone heard anything?)
  7. I have absolutely no idea where I'm going to accept yet. At all. I got into all of my programs but I haven't heard financial aid from most of my schools yet. Plus I want to visit campuses which is what I'm doing for spring break. I have only talked to those who go here for undergrad that have heard back (all kinds of answers) so it might just be us that have heard so far. I wish you the best of luck though! The program and the faculty are great.
  8. Hey Bro! I am also a proud member of APO. Like everyone has mentioned above, what will really impress grad schools is your grades (so keep that up!) and you being able to show them what you are passionate about. There are tons of applicants who are doing the exact same extracurriculars because they think it will impress grad schools and if you have one that's not SLP related but something you're passionate about you can really stand out to programs. Programs really want to have clinicians with diverse backgrounds because we will be serving clients from diverse backgrounds. I have recently been accepted into all of the grad programs I applied to and I think the main thing that helped me is that I got to know a couple faculty members who really gave me some great advice and guidance throughout my undergrad career and the application process (plus some awesome rec letters). I know its a little awkward to do sometimes but most professors truly want their students to be successful (especially in our field) and if you can find a professor doing research in an area you are interested in I would really recommend talking to them or asking to volunteer a couple times a week in their lab. Also. Not sure what university you are from but OSU is hosting APO's sectionals this year for sections 56/57/58/59. So feel free to let me know if you are coming to campus!
  9. I got a call around 4pm today. No funding was offered which is unfortunate but MGH is my dream school so I may or may not have been close to happy tears on the phone.
  10. Yes I have, I received an email a week or so ago. The forms showed up on my to-do list first (really confused me) and then the status of my application changed.
  11. I have a graduate assistance form (it isn't specific for the department but for graduate students in general) under my to-do list on my buckeyelink account. I don't know if this is the same form or not?
  12. I'm so excited to say I have been accepted at BU! I know some people have been awarded scholarship amounts and I was wondering if that was given in their original email or a separate email? BU is one of my top choices but I need some financial aid to make it happen.
  13. So, the University of Maryland is one of my top choice programs but I don't want to commit to going unless I visit campus first. I had set aside my entire spring break (March 16 to 20) in order to be able to travel to all my accepted schools due to both work and class conflicts during my normal school schedule. Unfortunately, UMD also has spring break during that week and their office informed me that they will be closed and unable to take visitors. In other words, I have no idea what to do now. My mom has already requested off work to drive around with me and I really want to be able to visit UMD while I'm free to do so. Does anyone know of any current grads or fellow applicants that have visited that could give me an insight into their program and/or places to look at on campus? Thanks!
  14. Congrats to everyone!! I'm so glad this waiting game is finally coming to a close. I have been accepted at OSU, University of Cincinnati, UMD and NYU. I interviewed with Boston University and still waiting to hear from MGH. Personally, I'm going to have to wait for all my financial aid packages to make a decision. So hopefully those come in soon.
  15. My portal for both Ohio State and UMD said acceptance several days before I received an email.
