So I have an awesome/exciting story to tell. I hadn't heard back from Northwestern regarding my decision at all as of last Thursday. I had called the graduate coordinators and they said that they were essentially done sending out acceptances roughly a week before last Thursday. I was getting worried as it was my top school...I ended up talking to one of my friends who goes there as a graduate chemistry student. He told me who the professor was that is the head of the admissions committee (who I was lucky enough to have written about on my SOP). I decided to give calling him a shot and I a voicemail on his office phone Thursday morning telling him how I really enjoyed his group's research and that I would love to come to NU, but I had not heard anything back yet and was afraid that my application was overlooked despite being readily qualified ( I go to a small state school and none of my LOR writers had any connections to NU). To my astonishment I found a voicemail from him about two hours later and he told me to call him back. I ended up talking to him for roughly 20 minutes and he told me that I had been accepted! I'm not sure if I had initially been rejected (I feel like I was), but calling him seemed to have made a huge difference! I hope that gives hope to all of you out there about potentially taking the initiative and calling your top schools if you haven't heard back yet. Also excellent job everyone else, I hope to be able to run into some of you at visitation weekends.

Sorry for the late reply. No I wasn't in contact with any of the professors there, seems like they were on point with their applications. Got accepted to UW-Madison today! The email ended up in my spam folder like someone else had mentioned, so be sure to check yours.

If you're referring to Northwestern, I applied for materials and haven't heard back yet either. Looks as if they haven't sent anything out for our sub-fields yet as far as I can tell from this thread and the results submissions.

Haha I feel the exact same way! Northwestern is my top choice and I'm checking my email/the admission decision page every hour or so...I need to stop. Congratulations to everyone else by the way for their acceptances thus far!

Good news! I got an acceptance email from UI-UC today! Looks like it payed off to get the application in early.

I created a separate paragraph and just listed three PI's and talked about their research a bit. Hope that helps!

Yeah you weren't joking, its the worst I've encountered so far. I wasn't able to upload anything to it myself...

The October Chem GRE scores were just posted, anyone else take them? I'm swooning, got a 770 (69%) on them!

Finally narrowed my list down... I'll be applying to Harvard, Michigan, Northwestern, UI-UC, Ohio State, MIT and Wisconsin. I'm really turned off by the fact that I'll be paying around $700 once the whole thing is said and done.

Hey Maxtini, if you feel confident with all of your material, I would go ahead and submit. I've been told by multiple professors that submitting early is a good idea, especially for the programs that you are really interested in. Best of luck!

Thanks! I wish I had you're GPA though...I'm debating about applying out there. I'm born and raised in the northeast, so It'd be a big lifestyle adjustment for me to go live out there. Have you started applying yet? I've decided to take a small break after my rough October....working on the NSF GRFP app and studying for the CHEM GRE really ran me into the ground.

As of now, I have Northwestern, U. Wisconsin, Ohio State, MIT and Harvard. There are a few others that I'm debating between to apply to, like Princeton, Michigan, Columbia and UI-UC. Looks like we have a bunch in common!
