  1. HI guys, hoping for a bit of advice here. I've recently graduated with a First Class Honors Degree in engineering. While applying to grad school, is there any way to list my honours class on the application? I'd really like to make a first impression of 'First Class Honours', so as to mitigate my somewhat low GPA of ~3.5. Thanks in advance!
  2. Is it common for Master's students to recieve interviews, or actually anything at all, at this point in the cycle?
  3. Nineteen. Will be twenty when I start, assuming I get accepted this cycle.
  4. Hello all, would like your opinion on my chances of admission. Here are my stats: Undergraduate institution: University of Hong Kong Undergraduate major: Medical engineering Undergraduate cGPA: 3.39 (Probably around 3.5-3.6 by the time of graduation) GRE Scores: 165V(95%) 170Q(98%) 5AW(93%) Research experience: Semester long research paper on lab-on-a-chip systems year long research project on robotics in Asia (probably gonna be published in 2015) final year research project on brain computer interfaces Internships: Two summer internships at National Pharmaceutical companies in India Summer internship at a robotics startup in Hong Kong Other extracurriculars: Competent Communicator award at Toastmasters International, a public speaking and leadership organization Organized an event to get school age girls interested in technology to bridge gender gap in engineering Started a student consulting group on campus Scholarships: Academic scholarship for 75% of my tuition fees Merit based scholarship for study abroad program LORs: Two from professors under whom I have done research One from the boss at my robotics internship Applying for Ms/MEng at: Stanford Johns Hopkins Georgia Tech UC Berkeley UCLA Drexel University of Rochester Arizona State UMiami Research interests: Biomedical technology development Medical electronics and devices Medical imaging Computational modelling and biology PS: If it helps, I am a non-citizen and non-resident of the US Feedback will be appreciated
  5. Hi guys, I am an engineering student from the University of Hong Kong. I wanted to ask you a few questions about research experience. 1. What exactly counts as research experience? So far I have completed one white paper which has been submitted to the HK government, may or may not be published, a term research paper on biomedical instrumentation, and a final year research project using signal processing. Which of these are considered 'valid' research experience? 2. Is it necessary for these to be in the program you are applying for? One paper is in robotics, another is on lab-on-chip systems, and the third is on brain computer interfaces. I'm applying for a MS or MEng in BME probably specializing in electronics or imaging. 3. Can internships make up for a lack of experience? So far I have completed three internships, one in a robotics startup, and two in large pharmaceutical exporters. They were not research based, but quite useful for learning industrial skills. Thanks for your time. Quite a long post xD. Any advice will be appreciated.
