  1. I was wondering the same thing but I'm going with more on the casual side and hoping that I'm not the only one. St. John's right? I'll see you there!
  2. I feel the same way as the first few posts. One of the programs I was accepted into had more of what I was looking for but I would have had to pay for housing and have my own transportation but my current decision takes those burdens off of me. I've paid admission fee for SJU but I still have my fingers crossed for Brooklyn College which has what I'm interested in and is the cheapest option for me. I figured that I would still be able to pursue my passion once I'm in the field and that I can go anywhere when it's all over anyhow.
  3. You may want to call because I heard back from them March 9th and I know the deadline for accepted students is next week. I sent my application in like a day or 2 before it was due.
  4. Wells that's kind of annoying and really last minute seeing as how we have to reply to other schools by then. I'm so anxious to find out whether or not I got in.
  5. Congrats! I was just wondering, when did you interview?
  6. Does anyone know anything about St John's program? Like its reputation, info on faculty, diversity, anything?
  7. They just had another set of interviews this past Friday. Have you tried calling?
  8. Brooklyn College has an in person interview. University of Alabama has an interview via Skype.
  9. Wow. That's crazy. Did she tell you what groups of people were represented in their grad program? Also did she tell you anything about the actual program because I'm interested in knowing what it's like over there.
  10. As an African American, I haven't experienced any discrimination as far as I'm concerned. At the undergrad level, my program is extremely diverse and our faculty is pretty diverse as well. Even the grad students are pretty proportionate in numbers. But my program may be the exception. Just from my acceptances and interviews, I think that I've been given a fair chance and if it had to do with my race, I would not have even had interviews for the programs that are predominately white (which would probably be all except Howard). But with that being said, in some cases, in may not even be what you know but who you know and I had a pretty good internship in NYC that may have opened doors for me because my GRE scores aren't competitive. As for HBCUs not admitting POC that often, I find that hard to believe because I keep hearing that we are getting in. And even looking at Facebook pages and such, programs such as Howard's does have mostly POC in them. I mean, it's just a competitive field I guess and they can't admit EVERY POC.
  11. Anyone want to share their interview experience with Brooklyn College?
  12. Just got my email of acceptance into St John's grad program!
  13. Has anyone applied for University of Alabama Tuscaloosa? Have they updated anything on their website? Did you send in your application 6 weeks before the deadline as recommended? I sent mine in later than 6 weeks early because I didn't think anything about the school until much later.
