  1. I just got mine too, Garyon! But I'm already committed somewhere else so it's nice to finally have the application season wrapped up totally now
  2. Did anyone on here go to the NYU open house? I wasn't able to go (although I did visit campus a few weeks ago), and I'd be interested to hear other opinions about the department before I make my final decision. Feel free to PM me!
  3. I was just in NYC/Long Island and they're getting a big snow storm today (like so big my flight was rebooked two different times and then just canceled for the day), so maybe bring so snow boots as well! I am coming from Europe too and the northeast has been quite a shock weather-wise. Enjoy Stony Brook! I was just there and every single person I met was so so so lovely and kind.
  4. I did not. I know some people there, so I knew that they are hiring a new professor this semester, which I think is why decisions are out so late. I was contacted by them in late January asking me to apply for a TA position, so I think that's part of the reason they sent me that follow up email. I did get the official email last night that I'm in, so that was exciting!
  5. I was contacted by the graduate coordinator and the chair of the department
  6. I just got an email today from UW saying that I'm being considered for admission and asking if I'm still interested. Soooo no idea if that means I've been admitted, but I think it's a good sign?
  7. Thank you so much!! I had 3 interviews with them (my POIs weren't able to coordinate for one) and I felt that I really bombed the first one, so this was pretty unexpected for me. As for not hearing from UPenn (or Maryland for that matter), I am just going to assume I didn't get in, and try to move on with my life. It does make me upset that some departments just don't bother to inform some applicants until months later that, oh hey, in case you somehow didn't get it, you're not in. We all put so much time and effort into the applications that we send to these places that it seems like the least they could do is send us notification of acceptance or rejection in a timely manner.
  8. Thank you for the encouragement! I actually just did get the email saying I'm in, so I'm gonna shut up and just be over here freaking out until further notice.
  9. Saw that some people got unofficial news of acceptance to NYU today. Congratulations to them! So if I didn't get an email like that.... should I assume I'm out?
  10. CONGRATULATIONS! I just got in as well!! I'll message you about it
  11. Long time lurker, first time poster. Any tips for how to interview with a professor who does not share many research interests with you? And who works in a totally different subfield from the ones you said you wanted to study in your SOP? Of course I'm going to familiarize myself with his work, think of questions about the program and about him to ask, and find some ways that our research interests are related but...... besides that? Any clues?
