  1. I've turned down offers from Princeton, Berkeley, WashU, and Toronto - most of these last week. Good luck!
  2. I haven't heard anything. I applied to Ancient History through Classics dept.
  3. A Princeton Ph.D. student visited my campus at the end of January and confirmed Princeton is doing Skype interviews, not campus interviews, this year. They are going to put that money into better funding. She told me they were going to be reading applications in about two week (so either this past week or two weeks ago). Obviously, she's not on the committee, and I talked to her a while ago, so who knows.
  4. Good luck to everyone interviewing with Columbia Classical Studies today!
  5. They've invited all the accepted students for a visit in two weeks, so I would think they are basically done. I suppose they could accept more if many of their accepted students decide to attend another school. It's probably not likely though, since they've already accepted more students than would likely attend.
  6. I didn't interview at any of my acceptances. I have never met (including emails) any faculty members at those four schools either. I know Chicago sent an email to my current department chair (Chicago alum) asking for another rec letter when I was moved to the shortlist, but they never contacted me about being shortlisted. It is definitely possible that schools might not require an interview.
  7. Thanks! It was a very short and general email asking for a 20 minute interview.
  8. I posted one of the Columbia Classical Studies interviews.
  9. I'm from Texas and now live in northern New England. The snow and the cold were such a shock. I still can't get over -20 F weather and 4 feet of snow. The school I'm at never cancels class, so I'm often trekking to class wishing I knew how to cross-country ski. Ideologically, I fit in better with New England, but people are so friendly in Texas, and I miss that. You can always (try to) avoid bigots, but you can't avoid the weather. I don't really worry about the weather at any of the schools I've applied to - how worse can it get? But I do dream about being in a nice mild climate. Beatrice - Lots of Texans, including myself, are passionately anti-capital punishment and quite vocal about it! RedViper - I haven't heard anything from Brown or Harvard.
  10. I added my high school AP math classes. I think it was just a generic (and really long) application. I thought the question about whether any of your ancestors were from so-and-so 19th century graduating class was interesting. I'm a first generation college student and a first generation American, so I guess it doesn't apply to me!
  11. My Berkeley (AHMA) acceptance said that the applicant pool was "large and unusually strong" this year. It seems that they accepted about 13% of applicants.
  12. FYI : Washington University in St. Louis is sending Ph.D. acceptance emails. Apparently, they had 10x the applicants as funded positions - pretty good for their first year.
  13. I've been accepted to Chicago PAMW. The status of my application is still "submitted" on ApplyWeb. I still haven't received an official acceptance or the funding package info, just an email from the chair. I don't know if the status actually ever changes. I was accepted to Columbia's Classical Studies MA two years ago, and the status was still just "submitted" on the MA app when I logged back in to apply to the Ph.D. program this year.
  14. I haven't heard from Brown either. I applied for ancient history but through the Classics dept. (There's also the option to apply through the History dept). I assumed that the classics-track ancient history acceptances would come out with the classics acceptances, but that's just a hunch. My Brown application was a bit of a mess (Dec. 1 killed me), so my expectations are a bit low for that program.
  15. I talked to UofT - they've accepted about 15 people at this point for both the Ph.D. and M.A. programs.
