  1. Does anyone know - if I want to defer my undergrad loans, but will be taking out a private loan (aka not through the school, not federal loans but with a family member) am I still able to get a deference, so long as I am enrolled full time?? Or is it dependent on taking out more federal loans while in school? Thanks for the help.
  2. Hi everyone, I've been accepted to all five Masters school psychology program I've interviewed with (some are MA/EdS some are MA/CAGS and one PsyD program). I haven't received any funding info as of yet, and for some schools its been up to two weeks since I've heard back either unofficially or officially. I've talked to many current students and various schools, and some have said that they receive enough in loans to cover their rent and some expenses even. I'm wondering about this - my FAFSA has an EFC of 0 with potential for something like a 20k federal loan. But the student who said that goes to a school that costs 30k per year - how is it possible that she would receive enough in loans for all that and more? Other students have casually mentioned have enough loans to cover everything also at other programs. I was under the impression that these weren't outside private loans either. Anyone know anything about this? I appreciate it! This is especially important because my top choice and probably the program I will end up in cost 40k per year (with promise of financial aid from what I've heard).
  3. That's tough MSIOP2015, I too put a lot of money and time into applying to other schools. The question is, what would those schools have to do to make you want to go there over your top choice (funding?? opportunities?). If they gave these things to you, would you be glad to have rejected your top choice? If it's about knowing you can get in to other programs, and seeing what opportunities they would have given you, you can still wait and find that out after accepting your top choice. Best of luck.
  4. I want to work in a school as a school psychologist- I will be entering either a MA/CAGS or MA/EdS program in school psych for the fall. I have been thinking how I do want that flexibility to work outside the school though, at some point (probably not right away), and have been thinking about pursuing my doctorate after this. However, I just discovered, with a Master's degree and two years as a school psychologist in Massachusetts, one can apply to become an educational psychologist and practice privately. This is great, it gives some flexibility I didn't know I had. Thoughts on this, or experiences from those who have decided to work outside the school a little bit in this field?? Thanks!
  5. Welcome to my world. I don't want to miss out on either!!
  6. Luckily I have some time to make this decision, but how will I know if it's right? I've been accepted to all five programs I've interviewed for, which is great, but there are two obvious choices. I haven't received any info on funding yet (these are MA/EdS programs). School A Practically an ivy, was rejected for undergrad, have family who went here, I felt the program was the closest match to my interests in the field and I loved the program, current students and teachers. The campus is gorgeous, but just outside the city. 40k a year but does give financial aid, no idea how much yet. School B Great school, good rep, in the city, could be happy in this program, matched interest but a little more academic focused than counseling/applied psych which is what i'll actually be doing. Great faculty, only met two current students but they were helpful. In the middle of the city. cost 30k but probably will receive no money. I don't want to make this decision on finances either. My feeling is to go with School A, when i was accepted i cried and called everyone. i was in a great mood. When i was accepted to School B i was very excited and happy - to be fair though it was my first acceptance and school B was my last. I'm afraid I'm partly lenient toward school A because its great rep and how i was rejected for undergrad. But it is an amazing program. I feel if i went to school A, I'd miss out on the great location of school B, as well as the opportunity for concentrating in one of two areas in the program, which school A doesn't offer. In the end its not that big a deal, but it's a great opportunity. If i went to school B, in general I feel i'd miss out for school A, but the program wouldn't be as good a match. It's hard to explain. I could be happy at either but they definitely offer different pros and cons. I want to go with my gut feeling, school A, but i feel guilty about rejecting school B since they're also great, (side note I feel guilty rejecting all the other schools... even though some are just not even a consideration considering they have not even close to the resources as these schools). I don't want to make the wrong choice or miss out on anything. Also, school B has a PhD, which it IS possible - possible - i could pursue after my masters/EdS at either program (maybe..). I feel that my education and experience at either school would be different, and it will mold me. Thoughts and opinions?? I appreciate it.
  7. Ah, that makes perfect sense. As I am graduating this semester I assume it must be conditional on my receiving my BA, and maintaining my grades. "Accepted with conditions" just makes it sound a little less exciting at first glance than simply "you've been accepted!" All in all, very, very excited. Thanks for prompt responses!
  8. I just checked my online portal for Northeastern University and was accepted (WOOHOO!!!!) with conditions. I will be receiving a letter soon and I'm sure will get more information on that. But does anyone know what this might mean?? This is what it says: Congratulations on being conditionally accepted to the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University! An official acceptance letter will be mailed to you shortly. When you receive the acceptance letter, you should complete the enclosed form and return it to us with your DEPOSIT by the date specified in the letter. Once you confirm, your program will reserve a place for you in the entering class. Thanks for the help!
  9. Thank for the response! As far as a skirt, I was definitely thinking professional looking skirts. I have a black pencil skirt, but I'm not sure if it's too.. fitted to work. Unfortunately I do not have a suit of any kind and can't afford one. What I have are dress pants, a pencil skirt, and some "nice clothes". I can look professional but I am not sure I could afford a suit. I may be able to afford shopping for knew professional looking clothes if need be? Also, good tip on the briefcase or padfolio - will look into it for sure!
  10. Hi everyone, I will be attending an interview day (just the one) in February. I am hoping to get some info and advice from people who have gone through interview days and know what I might expect. Also, the big thing is - what to wear (as a woman). What did other people wear to interview days you attended? I did see a topic on this before. Some people say suits, some more casual. I will certainly dress professional, but whether to wear a skirt or pants, etc I am not sure. The program i specifically am applying to is the Masters in Science in School Psychology at Northeastern University. If anyone has attending the interview day for this school specifically I would love some input. Also, to bring resume, writing samples, etc - and where do you keep a folder like that if you don't want a big purse or to carry it around looking silly? The help is appreciated!
