  1. This is a great idea! I'm in my final semester at Case Western in Cleveland, OH. I won't be able to meet in-person, but maybe we could also have a virtual set-up for students who are far away? I'm happy to give tips regarding my experience with field/classes/etc, and I'm looking forward to the collaboration with others!
  2. Hi everyone, I will be graduating with my MSSA (equivalent to MSW) from Case Western in December 2016. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips about applying for social work jobs. Here's a little bit about my experience: I do have my Bachelor's of Social Work and my LSW. I'm looking to get a job as a medical/hospital social worker. My BSW field placement was working with those experiencing homelessness, and also helping run a free medical clinic. I had two semesters of field at a cancer treatment center, and my role was providing supportive counseling, resources, and advocating for women with breast cancer as they went through chemo. For my final semester, I am doing my field experience at a children's hospital in the palliative care and bereavement center. I just have some general questions such as when do I start applying, how do I negotiate salary, what can I expect for my first job after graduation. I would love to hear about any experiences you all have had in the job application process and what it is (or was) like having your first job. Thank you!
  3. Congratulations, Ali! I found out that I was actually accepted to CWRU on 2/27. The email was in my junk folder! Crazy. So now I have a decision to make. Even with scholarship money, I will still have to take out loans for Case, and Case will be about $5,000 more expensive than OSU. I wish it were an easy decision.
  4. Thank you! I did not need to take the GRE for either of the schools I applied to so I cannot report that score. I have a 3.93 GPA with extensive volunteer experience with LGBT youth in Columbus as well as a Bachelor of Social Work field placement at a homeless shelter in downtown Columbus. For both Case and OSU, I applied to their Advanced Standing programs.
  5. Finally got accepted to Ohio State on 2/18! Case Western is starting to frustrate me though. I checked my status of my application online yesterday and the status had changed from "UNDER REVIEW" to "DECISION RENDERED" but I have not gotten any notification (email or otherwise) as to what this decision is! Anyone else have that problem?
  6. Thanks to all who replied! Still waiting to hear back from both... Though I did not get the email that BunnyMeadows says they received. The waiting game is tough.
  7. Hey everyone! This is the first time I'm posting on this site. Has anyone applied to Case Western's MSSA Program or Ohio State's MSW Program? If so, have you heard back? I'm waiting anxiously, checking my admission status multiple times a day! Good luck to all! - Emily
