  1. Columbia acceptances and wait lists are out. Rejections will go out in mid-March.
  2. I'm attending elsewhere--just passing on information that I have learned to help folks out. In my experience, results at most schools are delivered in one of two ways: (1) acceptances go out first, wait lists and rejections go out later and simultaneously, or (2) acceptances and wait lists go out together, followed by rejection about a month later.
  3. UCSC admits are out. Good look everyone!
  4. Not true with Harvard. Interviews with finalists and acceptances take place well before anyone else hears anything (at least this was the case last year).
  5. Yes, Indiana sends out interview invites in mid-December (I got mine last year).
  6. Good luck everyone! There are at least two schools that send out their interviews before the holidays. Last year, I received one in mid-December, and the other one should be coming your way next week (depending on your list of schools, of course). Also, don't forget that many schools make their decisions without interviews, so don't lose hope if you end the year on a negative note.
  7. I think it very much depends on the individual institutions, but—from my experience—the scores don't really matter. My verbal score was same as yours. I applied to 5 musicology programs last year and got into 3 of them... Moreover, I received the best possible financial package from the one that stated an impossibly high standard as the average score for their accepted students on their website. My advice: put your money, time, and efforts into another aspect of your application.
  8. Right there with you!! I'm moving across country in just 3 weeks. Where are you coming from?
  9. This is the link that I browsed today: https://ocha.facilities.columbia.edu
  10. Just accepted my offer yesterday. Does anyone know what the chances are of landing the grad housing?
  11. I got a heads-up email on Sunday night (April 12), the official letter from the Graduate School went out April 14 and they gave me until April 17 to respond. Asking for a status update is not frowned upon-- I had done so twice before I received this offer from them.
  12. I had a major curve ball thrown my way last night... A positive one though But this means that I still haven't committed. Are you leaving the New York area?
  13. Same here!! While I have a few acceptances, I am really hoping to score one of my wait lists (4 possibilities). I feel like getting a wait list is really not a decision but a prolongation of this torturing process...
  14. I'd say focus on things like gaining new perspectives, teaching styles, perhaps a different type of institution, networking with both current professors and new student body. Of course this very much depends on where you are at and where you are going... I'd say that there must be a reason of why you applied there in the first place, so—while being thankful about all your institution has done for you—explain why the other option will ultimately help you achieve your academic goals. Given that these people are your current advisors, they will want what's best for you and will not hold it against you.
  15. I also have a Musicology PhD offer.
