  1. Thanks everyone! I double-checked with the dean of students as well, and U-SHip is indeed paid for my UChicago. Hooray! Can anybody here offer advice on the best/cheapest/fastest internet provider? Also, my grad housing lease says I have to take care of electric and cooking gas. I am used to having to set up these utilities myself upon move in. Has anybody done this yet? Advice on those things (good companies, 1 year contracts, no credit checks etc)? thanks so much!
  2. Hi everyone! This question may be dumb, but I am going to ask it anyway because I want to get my facts straight. My letter of admission mentioned that I would receive 'health care coverage' by the University. Yet, there is no mention anywhere in the current emails I am getting about U-SHIP that implies that the university will pay the quarterly $1144 fee for U-SHIP. Times four times a minimum of 5 years for my program, this little misunderstanding might cost me a bit more than I had anticipated. I am aware that all students must pay the student life fee, but that isn't all that much per year. Does anybody know what the 'health care coverage' in the letter might have meant?
  3. Hey everyone! Has anyone heard back from Graduate Housing yet? I fear I may have been a bit too specific in my housing requests, and am a bit afraid they will just say that nothing has become available that is in line with my preferences... I requested a beginning of August move-in. I have no idea how specific one should be in these preferences, does anyone here? And did anyone ask whether it is possible to move from one Grad Housing to another during their studies? I might like to move if my spouse joins me in Chicago.
  4. Did you get your I-20 or DS-somenumber yet? Visas to the US are suspended for now... but hopefully everything will work out before the start of the semester. I am freaking out a bit too, as I have booked an early ticket to Chicago and am afraid I may have to reschedule if the visa process takes too long...
  5. I am so nervous about this! I was finally able to schedule an appointment today (for the 21st of July), but I'm supposed to fly out on the 31st of July. Am not sure whether I should re-schedule my flight (which will cost over E300..), 21-31st doesn't seem like a lot of time for 'processing' and printing the visa. Does anybody know what the average time is for printing the visa after your appointment? Currently they are saying 9 working days (but I am hoping it will change after they have cleaned up the mess from this week). :-(
  6. Hi everyone! Congrats on being admitted! I am very excited and am looking forward to this summer, exploring a new city (and a new country at that! Have never even visited the States). Will be looking for a 1-room apartment, as I prefer living on my own. I also hope my partner and cat will be joining me soon, so a studio might be a bit small. Graduate housing at least ensures me that I am not being scammed, so I think I will look into that for the first year, then see what else is out there for the years after that. I am visiting UofC in about a week (prospective students day, plus some sightseeing). As I already know I'll be accepting my offer, I would like to bring 1 extra suitcase and store it somewhere in Chicago. Do any of you know a (relatively safe) place/way to store 1 suitcase? There won't be anything valuable inside, just clothes and books, but it'll save me some money, as moving costs from EU to US are extremely high. Hiring a storage ($65/month) is too expensive for just 1 suitcase... Any advice welcome! Cheers!
  7. Hi guys! Does anyone happen to know the date(s) of the UofC prospective students day (for NELC)? Cheers!
  8. Hi guys! I saw on the results page that someone applying for a PhD in Hebrew Bible had an interview this week at University of Chicago. How did it go? I have only applied for NELC (PhD) in Chicago, and I am becoming very nervous about the results.. has anyone heard when they most likely will send out the results at UofC? Last year some people heard beginning of February, but some as late as March.. Cheers!
