  1. I did know I was on the wait list. Dr. Snell called me about 3 weeks ago to tell me that she believed I would be getting an offer soon. That being said, I think that means I was at the very top of the wait list. You may still be on it, just maybe not very high. She told me that they'd given offers to 5 people total for both programs, me being the 6th.
  2. I just declined an offer from Akron (I was previously on the wait list and received the offer yesterday) so if you are on that wait list, you might get a call pretty soon. (masters)
  3. That being said, I did apply to the masters program but I believe the case is the same for PhD.
  4. I got a call from Akron today letting me know I was high on the wait list and may get an offer next week. She said their visiting day was last week so anyone who hasn't heard otherwise is probably waitlisted as well.
  5. As I will be entering a Masters I/O program in the Fall, I am entertaining the idea of doing an internship abroad next summer to increase my value to potential future employers. I want to work for a company with locations abroad so I feel that with an experience working abroad, particularly with another language (I have a foundation in French), I will look attractive for I/O related positions in those companies. I studied abroad in undergrad so I do have a basis of where to start looking but I was wondering if anyone has done this and has tips on where to look or how to fit it into your graduate program, etc. I hope anyone considering a similar career path can find this thread helpful as well.
  6. I think a lot of us on this thread wish we had known that was the better option before picking a major in psychology. Ah regrets..
  7. I had the same realization last year when I applied to PhD programs in Social Psychology and did not end up getting into any program. Trying to quickly pull myself together, I applied to many lab manager positions in order to get more research experience. I was completely shocked when I was told, by multiple labs, that they would prefer someone with a computer science background. That concept kind of makes me laugh because my boyfriend is a computer engineer and his job prospects and earning potential are so phenomenal that I don't know WHY someone with a computer science background would even look at those jobs. Anyway, it was really shocking because that is probably the only job I can think of that should be looking specifically for people with a bachelors in Psychology and we are still worthless to them. What a waste of four years! I could have had a completely different major and been in a better position going to a career IN PSYCHOLOGY. I ended up completely re-evaluating my goals and decided to forget about social psychology because, as you said, the job pool isn't even worth it.
  8. Has anyone else applied to the University of Akron and heard anything or have any idea around when they will make contact? Their deadline was January 15, although I sent my application in November (probably why I am starting to get crazy) so I am sure it can't be the time to worry. I've seen reports of responses from their counseling program but nothing so far from I/O. Last year, I got waitlisted for all 7 schools I applied to so I am very nervous about not hearing anything already.
