  1. I applied for both schools. I went to CSULB as an undergrad and I enjoy the campus. It is nice, green and they have a lot of resources. Of course, I live closer to the campus as well. I know people that have graduated and currently are in the MSW program. I always heard that the program in LB is good etc but I did see it was ranked the same as CSULA. However, I think more people apply there than LA probably not sure why. I got accepted into CSULA and decided to take the offer. I figured the change is good and their FSW concentration was of interest to me. I got put on the CSULB pending list so it was not a guaranteed anyway.
  2. Congrats! I will be attending there as well. =) same concentration.
  3. I am sure you posted it about it, but what are your stats? Congrats on all the acceptances so far =)
  4. Yes, I am a case manager at a homeless veteran agency. I have been doing it almost two years. There are two women at the agency that were graduates of the CSULB program (about six years ago) but they are older and had 15+ years in social services one as a director of a non-profit and the other case management, counseling,so I am thinking maybe they do go by the most experienced at times. However, one of our interns is a first year at CSULB and he had little SW experience. He was in the military and came from a disadvantaged background so maybe that helped him along with good academics. I would like more insight on other candidates though.
  5. NYU is a great choice though. I see you got accepted congrats! I would have loved to have applied out-of-state. Is tuition pretty high though?
  6. The area is good, like Teem89 said it is residential with a ton of apartments that students live in all around the school. Parking sucks though and there is traffic most of the day due to the school and the hospital/businesses next door. If you do have a car there are plenty of other chill towns nearby, San Pedro, Carson, Lakewood, etc but LB is big so there are options. The campus is huge and taken care of, but yes it can feel crowded at times. However, I think classes for the program are on days undergrads are not really there I know Friday for sure.
  7. I turned in my app for CSULA literally a few days before the deadline of January 15th! super late status...I also applied for CSUDH but I have not heard back. I submitted that one like a month before the deadline. They did mention I was missing a human development class but if I am chosen I can take it in the summer. Do you know how many spaces CSUDH has?
  8. I was aiming for CSULB but I was put on the "pending list" I went there as an undergrad and I enjoyed it. However, I am good with CSULA because I had heard about their forensic concentration. I think CSULB and LA are on the same rank but I do like CSULB's campus better in my opinion. My GPA is not the greatest 3.4. I am currently in the social services field as a case manager for homeless vets and been doing it for almost two years. Previous to that I worked at a school district with special-ed. I have a few years of volunteer experience working with formally incarcerated, internship at the probation dept, youth mentoring, and art workshops for at-risk youth in an art studio. My current job now has been the one that has taught me the most. We have interns here from USC and CSULB working with the same population either teaching classes or one-on-one therapy so I been drilling them with all kinds of questions.
  9. I wonder what they look at CSULB? at my job we have a first year intern from the program and he said he did not have a lot of social work experience, but he had advised me on the personal statement and "pulling heartstrings" is good so I am guessing the people in the program have good personal stories in addition, to academics. I received a "pending" email February 10th.
  10. So I got a letter from CSULA for "provisional acceptance" for the 2-year Forensic Social Work program. I guess they are waiting for my GPA from admissions or something which I should be good in. But they sent me the packet to send back by March 5 that includes the statement of commitment. I guess I am in, but I will get a final approval once the University does their part. It's a bit confusing, but I am going to call and check.
  11. As I been scrolling through these posts, I see that being on the CSULB "pending" list means that we won't hear back for a while correct? and is the two-year program full technically?
