  1. Has anyone heard from USC admissions office or Student Aid Coordinator??????????? I emailed them several times (3 different people) but none have replied in the last few weeks.. Silence is making me nervous ( though I've been admitted I had some questions to ask regarding their financial offer) Anyone going through the same thing??
  2. Hello I am currently considering enrolling to MPP to Humphrey school. Anyone joining me? If so, let's share academic interests and goals in pursuing this degree.
  3. Thank you for your extremely informative advice. Thank you for taking the time. Your post definitely helped me see USC in a whole new perspective.
  4. Hi, guys, wanted to ask about the reputation of MPP programs USC (as far as I know, this school ranks the highest among the four in public policy) offered me half-tuition scholarship which still ends up with about 20K/yr. Duke Sanford School scholarship + assistantship = 22K/yr Cornell - scholarship =21K/yr. And today, Uni. of Minnesota Humphrey School offered me 7K/yr. The only thing I am most worried about is the reputation of each school. So is it true that the ranking of each program matters more than the reputation of the school? (USC->Minnesota=Duke->Cornell is the current ranking, but this may be slightly wrong) I was pretty sure that was the case but in recent weeks I've read that Cornell and Duke will be an advantage to getting a job in the US. To be honest, I am kind of afraid I'll be stuck in Minnesota forever. I want to get your advice on how employers in the US general (it's very broad, I apologize) react to the reputation of universities and how that will affect my career. I also want to get some advice on anything, ANYTHING on graduate schools, jobs related to policy, or any of the universities above.

  7. Hi Naso, congrats on your full tuition!! Just wanted to ask, how many years of work experience did you have? Thanks!
  8. Wow, thank you. I was thinking about negotiating, but wasn't sure how to do it. Now I have a little bit more sense of how to do it.
  9. If you don't mind me asking, do you refer gov fellowship as the Federal Loan Repayment plan? or is there a separate fellowship that can be done simultaneously with MPP/MPA program? Thank you!
  10. Thank you Floatingmolecule. Your consolation means a lot to me.. Your insight is certainly is right to some extent. It's true that especially state universities (unlike private institutions) are mostly lacking in funding so they are always very discrete in selecting candidates for funding. But in my case, I am a US citizen, but graduated from a university abroad (which in my opinion, has to do with lack of credibility, perhaps? I graduated magna cum laude in my school but that wouldn't strike them hard as someone with a high GPA in a well-known US undergraduate institution. + Letter of recommendation by some professors largely unknown to US graduate schools would be very unlikely to impress them, compared to well-known US professors(not to blame it on my professors or anything) I applied to PhD in political science and out of the 11, 10 sent me rejection I assume that the Letter of recommendation ( extremely important in PhD application process) and the international institution that I attended failed to outdo the rest of the applicants. Nevertheless, I still have some hope left, so why give up already?
  11. while i started hearing painful rejections from early Feb, it is still more painful to remind myself that out of 11 schools I applied to, I was rejected from 10 schools....Only 1 left.....and haven't heard anything. im thinking i overestimated myself a bit too much....now im mainly just trying to maintain serenity in my mind...which means i have mostly given up.
  12. Congrats on your admissions! I applied to MPP without any work experience. ..but luckily I got accepted to USC(funding to be informed), U of Minnesota Humphrey(funding to be informed), Duke Sanford 16K+4Kassistantship/yr, Cornell CIPA 10K/yr The thought of massive debt is simply dreadful to me... and because of my no work experience, I'm less hopeful about the $$Full Funding$$ scenario.. 1. If any of u guys got a full tuition coverage(or $ similar to full coverage, may I ask how many years of work experience you had? I'm now thinking about working for 1,2 years bf reapplying because of the amount of debt.. 2. Do you think working a few more yrs would substantially increase the chance of me getting full funding? Any word of advice, wisdom, or comments on the question above would mean a great deal to me. Thanks!
  13. Hi, everyone. Congrats! I applied without any work experience...but got accepted with 10K a year (less hopeful about $$$ scenario..) Can I ask is this a great offer? How much did you guys get? Did any of u guys get full tuition coverage(or similar to that amount)? If so, can I ask how many years of work experience you had? Thanks!
