  1. Hi All! I am very fortunate to be choosing between two great schools for my Ph.D in biomedical sciences in a great location, NYC. I am having an extremely hard time picking one over the other! My GUT is telling me Mount Sinai; I feel that I would have a better quality of life there. However, for someone who is interested in cancer research, it seems really stupid to turn down Cornell who is affiliated with Sloan Kettering, one of the top cancer research institutes in the country. Can anyone weigh in on the decision? How important do you think the "name" of a school is? Another thing that is important to me is housing. Mount Sinai seems to have much better housing options for couples (I will be moving with my fiancé) in a less "dormy" environment than Cornell, which appears to only offer studio apartments to couples without children. AHHHH I am so torn! Is anyone else in a similar predicament?
  2. Hi! Thank you so much for posting. I was recently admitted to Cornell BCMB and now I am deciding between that and Mount Sinai. I feel like I felt a bit more at home at Sinai, but I'm really torn because I want to love Cornell. I have a lot of questions.... 1) How important do you think the "name" of the institution is in future career paths? Do you think there is a significant difference between Cornell and Mount Sinai? 2) What is the balance of life? Are you expected to be in lab at all times? The graduation average is apparently 6.5 years-- is this an accurate statement? 3) What is couples housing like? Is it only studios or are you likely to get a 1br if you request it? The buildings have a very "dormy" feel to them-- why can't you take the furniture out and make the place your own? 4) What do you think are the main pros about Cornell and what are the cons? What is your career goal and how are they helping you to meet that? 5) How are your fellow students?
