  1. Oh no worries, I graduated in 2009. So we can be the two oldest ladies there. Haha.
  2. I was also accepted to UC, I am still tying to make a decision but it's so tough!!! The only thing thats keeping me from accepting chicago's offer is the tuition as as well! And like the person above me stated I've also read ranking doesn't matter for social work, but I think that you should be excited/honored that one of the top schools accepted you, their acceptance alone means you are very well qualified and show an aptitude for sucesss!!! Best wishes !!
  3. Grad school is a lot different than undergrad, most if not all of your classes will be social work related. I would suggest taking a few grad courses as a non degree seeking student, to see if you like it. I took a few in education counseling, and sociology, to really decide what I wanted to do.
  4. Hi, If you are able to I would recommend taking 6-9 credits in Graduate Courses ( as a non degree seeker), preferably getting A's. You can then include in the statement of intent why your grades suffered, and point out that you hope your graduate grades indicate your apititude for a graduate program. I would also recommend doing human service work to display your experience in the field. A lot of schools want a well rounded student, not just someone with good grades. I had a somewhat similar situation to you, and I was accepted into a couple of the top rated MSW programs in the country. I hope this helps!!
  5. So I made the decision to go to VCU! Looking forward to meeting you in the fall!! Are you following the facebook page for prospects and new admits? https://www.facebook.com/VCUSchoolofSocialWorkMSWProspectivesandNewAdmits?pnref=lhc
  6. Hey, I might be going to vcu this coming fall. But I see you were also accepted to UT (so was I), what made you choose VCU over UT? Just curious I am having a really hard time making my decision ..
  7. Hi Pinkrosz, Thank you! Nope it wasn't NYU, I wish you the best !!!
  8. Hi All, Just an update!! I got off the waitlist this morning!!!!!!! Very happy to say it was to my first choice school!! Good luck to the rest of you!!
  9. Hey val! Thank you for the encouraging story!! I am holding out hope. I also replied to my waitlist email, letting the committee know that they remained my first choice graduate program, and after reconsidering I would be willing to be part of one of their city/social work collaboration programs. I recieved an email back thanking me for my email...so I guess we'll see. Thankfully I read another grad cafe thread where people were encouraged to reply to being wait listed otherwise I wouldn't have...this site is full of wonderful information!!
  10. Thank you for letting me know!! I was told I would havev a decision before the end of May.
  11. Hi All, So, I was just informed I've been waitlisted to my first choice program for this coming fall. I'm trying not to get upset about it as I know it wasn't a complete rejection, and because I've been accepted to another highly ranked program . However, I was wondering if any of you have had any positive experiences after being waitlisted. I could really use a few positive and uplifting stories/advice.
  12. Hey cclasp, When was your application submitted/considered complete? I am trying to gauge how far from submission people are getting accepted/rejected. Thanks!
  13. Thank you for your response, yes I was going to ask the admissions director before school starts in the fall, and before the date I need to accept/deny the admission offer by. I am just waiting for a few other (hopefully) acceptance offers to come in before I ask, I did apply to other programs as full time, but this one was local so when applying I thought I might continue at my current job, but now I am thinking I would want to focus on the program and finish in 2 years instead of 3 or 4.
  14. Has anybody had any experience with this? I applied to one of my MSW programs and checked part-time student, at this point I have been accepted, though my letter did not stipulate full or part time. Since applying I have been giving it more thought and think that I would rather be a full time student, does anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible? Or do they accept you based on if you asked to be full/part time. Thanks!!
