  1. I understand that, and I'm aware F1 grants me student status. What I need to know is if I can work and be certified with the state (in this case, New York) once I graduate. Basically, if it requires permanent residency/citizenship to work as a school psych in the state, then no way am i eligible, or that's my understanding of it
  2. Hi all, Just wondering if there's any international applicants (canada, asia, south america) who applied or is aware of attending a school psych program in the states (EdS/masters/phd) and if that makes us eligible to work and practice upon completion of the degree. Is a green card required? I'm applying to several EdS programs which are 3 years long but you don't get your green card until staying in the States for 5 years, so if residency/citizenship status is an issue then considering the degree in the US is out of the question Thank you in advance!
  3. Hi everyone, So I'm thinking about applying to a school psych EDS program in New York and from a thread on this forum someone noted that school psychs in NY state is being phased out due to implementation of another system. Can anyone shed light on that? Is it worth it to pursue a EDS degree in New York? Thank you in advance!
  4. anyone got any input? Much appreciated!
  5. Not really, so as long as the area has a reputation of somewhat safe (I know that's subjective), so yes, all input please and very appreciated!
  6. Hi all, Recently I've done more research and talked to someone and found out that the field does seem to fit me, some aspects of mixed counseling + assessment as well as working with a diverse population ranging from children to middle school. As I was originally primarily focused on counseling, school psychology seems to be a option on the same helping field yet its roles are a little more diverse and encompasses different aspects of helping (including assessment and evaluation) and talking to parents, which I seem to enjoy. I'm trying to narrow down 4 EdS programs from the United States specifically for my applications later this year. Thank you iphi for helping me a lot, and it seems like U of Minnesota & LaHigh are some good fits for me. Anyone whether currently in a EdS program or has been one or know anything about the field can suggest some good programs for me in the US? Will check them out 1 by 1 and definitely appreciate all sorts of input. Factors I consider: - Location (preferably urban, though rural isn't really a big no-no for me) - Reputation of a generally safe area/city (not a lot of violence/gangs {I'm uninformed in this area, but i know this is a big concern for my parents as they've never studied in America}) - Good reputation for their EdS program, preferably with decent faculty if anyone can speak to that Thank you in advance!
  7. Been looking at Canadian schools like UBC and SFU. Definitely interested in the UBC one as it prepares you to become licensed and practice as a professional afterwards. I also see an educational psychology program in SFU but it doesn't seem to offer the same career path/outcomes as the UBC program. Can anyone shed some light on school psychology masters in Canada?
  8. Hi everyone, As I prepare my applications for 2016 (which I'm starting to find programs now and want to start my personal statements by June/July), I'm starting to explore more on school psychology as I'm interested to work with children (always had, especially the younger one). I have a 3.6/4.0 for my last 2 years in undergraduate and about a 80/100 (A-) cumulative. I have experience currently volunteering in the crisis line center and am also completing a peer counseling certificate program in progress (not sure if that'll help). For summer I'm looking to land a volunteer RA position at a research lab to give me some research experience. I'm mainly looking for school psychology MASTERS program in North America. I am looking for some suggestions for good programs (from good ones, to decent ones that aren't too hard to get in). I was told I have an advantage (at least in Canada) because school psychology programs are primarily dominated by females and hence they have a strong demand for males. Would anyone be able to suggest programs? I know US is accredited by NASP and Canada by CASP. Thanks in advance
  9. Thanks for the encouragement! I graduated last Spring, currently working in a peer counseling certificate program to get a good recommendation latter there and volunteering in the crisis center as well. I will try to land a RA experience but I might have to look for full time employment starting May of this year once my certificate ends. I'm really just trying to expand my options and see what masters I can apply to. Originally I'm interested in counseling but I'm not sure if I can see myself doing it for the years to come. Social work is also something that also stands out to me. IO appeals to me because of how interesting it is, but I'm not a very statistics heavy person, so that scares me a little as well. I wish there was more information about the programs in UK because from what I heard their IO psychology programs focus more on practical/industrial aspect and not research, which happens to be the opposite of North America.
  10. Sorry, for that's a huge typo. I meant GRE. Currently I do not have much research experience under my belt except for the experience with a crisis center and peer counseling program. I am not sure if that should deter me from applying because it seems like I won't have even a slim chance.
  11. Most likely not, but who knows about the future
  12. Hi everyone, first post here. I have been thinking about IO psychology programs lately and I do not have a competitive GPA, my LSAT is at June and I have been looking at some schools for MSc in IO Psychology in the UK. Does anyone know anything about them, i.e. the reputation of their programs in IO and whether or not it's a good idea to apply there? I also tried to look in Asia for IO psychology programs and unfortunately cannot seem to find any. Any advice would be much appreciated! PS: if someone can tell me if IO psychology is heavy in research because I'm more interested in the practical aspect of things (though I don't mind research, but really I don't have much research experience, I do have experience volunteering in a crisis center and took a certificate course in peer counseling, so I have experiences and credentials in terms of interpersonal relationships, which I hope can be a + for IO in terms of dealing with people and consulting) Much thanks in advance!
