  1. Hi Talha, I'm a Management PhD student who is coming in in the fall and I just rented a place on West Main, quite near Grainger Hall where the business classes are. It seems like a nice area, though I'm working overseas at the moment so I haven't had a chance to look in person. Before that I was looking at places on Gorham Street which seems very pleasant and is also quite close. I hope we run into each other at Grainger Hall in the fall! For those who have already been living in Madison: what's a reasonable grocery budget? I'm a bit obsessive about budgeting ahead of time (years in business will do that to you) so I'm wondering what some people's experiences are. It'll just be my wife and I, fairly average eaters (don't care if things are gluten free and organic etc. but healthy-ish). In anyone's experience what is a reasonable weekly/monthly grocery budget and where should we be shopping when we get there? I hear good things about the farmers market on weekends for produce.
  2. Hi All I was just accepted to the PhD in Management program at Madison and couldn't be more excited! I am apartment hunting now - I work overseas and won't be stateside again until August, so from what I understand I have to sign a lease remotely just to make sure I have a place to live. I'm looking for decent one bedrooms for me and my wife. I've read some of the advice and appreciate it, I've also sent some mails to current students. One thing I'm curious about is the public transport. I'll have a car hopefully but when one of us has it can the other get around on local public transport? Also - any companies you recommend to rent from/not rent from? Many thanks all!
  3. Hi all! Just wanted to see if I could bring this thread back to life for Fall 2015. I haven't made a final decision yet (still waiting on one waitlist) but there's a good chance I'll be attending WSU in the fall for a PhD in Management. Anyone else attending in the fall? I'll be moving there with my wife - we've both lived in the Midwest extensively and been around Detroit but haven't lived there. Would be cool to know some people outside of my program.
