  1. I have been accepted into their Counseling program but don't know much about the school. It is ranked #15 by U.S. News & World Report for Masters-Universities West and when I visited I thought it was nice, but I'd like some feedback from people who actually know about it. Any input? Thanks!
  2. Well, I finally heard back from my first choice... and it was a rejection. I'm so upset, I thought I had done a pretty good interview. Now it looks like I'll have to decide between my other two acceptances... One which is in a cool city, Boston, but whose faculty I wasn't crazy about, because they were very stuffy and cold. Or a school in San Antonio, where the people were cool, but most people in the program are much older than me, and therefore I am worried I won't make much friends. Any opinions?
  3. Ugh. I actually just called the school I'm waiting on and they said they're still making decisions for "the final cut" but to email the program director. Problem is, I already emailed his assistant last week and don't want to be annoying.! And how come some people have heard back already (I really only know of 1 person) and I haven't? Would emailing the director be a bad idea? I'm starting to lose hope...
  4. I'm so sorry you're hanging on your first choice too, it sucks soooo bad! Have you heard of any other people hearing back from that school? Do you think we might be on an "unofficial" wait list? Either way, I can't wait for this to be over with!
  5. My first choice is all I'm waiting on, but I have to respond to the other schools by April 15th. After the interview they said they'd contact everyone in 2 weeks but it's been 3. So I emailed them on Thursday and I haven't heard back, I'm debating if I should call them on Monday, but their keeping me hanging is kind of turning me off.
  6. April 15th is this Thursday! Are you still waiting to hear back from some schools? If so, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to pressure them into telling you or just forget about them and move on?
  7. So I interviewed at a school a little over two weeks ago and was told they would get back to me in 1.5 - 2 weeks. It's been a little over 2 weeks now and I still haven't heard back, but another person that interviewed with me (it was a group interview) told me they'd heard back about a week ago. I've been anxiously waiting to hear back and am now wondering if maybe I just didn't get the email? They said they would email everyone, regardless of your admissions status, so, should I contact the school and ask what's up? Or should I wait a few more days before doing so? Thanks!
  8. So I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find a thread on items that should be brought to a graduate school interview. I thought resume and maybe transcript, but this isn't a job interview so I'm not sure if they are necessary. Any other suggestions?
  9. My parents are planning on paying for my graduate school, but we disagree on schools. I told them that if they are going to help me but pressure me into certain schools, that I would rather them not help me out. I understand that it would be better to have no debt whatsoever, since I don't have any from undergrad, but I also want to be independent from them at some point. I will value and hear their opinions, but is it unreasonable for me to be upset that they think the decision is theirs? Or should I just compromise and go to whatever school they like most in order to avoid debt? Thanks for your opinions!
  10. I'm taking a class this semester which turned out to be very different than I expected and I'm not doing well on it. I don't need it for anything, not even credits, and am considering dropping it. Problem is, I'll get a W in my transcript. Do you think a school will retract their admission offer if I have a W on my final transcript? It would be my only W in all of my college career. Opinions?
  11. I am applying to counseling programs and received my first acceptance last week but when I got the package in the mail it didn't mention anything about funding. Someone told me they won't give it to you unless you ask for it. If this is true, how should I go about asking for funding? I know some applications asked if I wanted to be considered for an assistantship or fellowship but I won't qualify for funding based on need. I'm really uneducated about this aspect of applying to grad school... any help would be incredibly appreciated! Thanks!
  12. So I am going home for 10 days over spring break and don't have anyone staying at school that could check my mail while I'm gone. How am I going to find out if I get invited to interviews by mail if I can't get to them? Especially since one of them told me they would notify me by postal service by March 1 (I leave Feb. 26 come back Mar. 8). So, should I call them and ask them to notify me via email, or send me the letter to my permanent address? I don't want to annoy them either! I feel like the week I'll be gone is the week I'll hear back from everywhere! How common is it to receive invitations to interview by snail mail though? Any help is appreciated!
  13. Last Thursday in February and still waiting to hear from 7 schools!

  14. Hi! Congratulations on being accepted at two great schools! Although I've never been to Madison, I've done all my undergraduate (in sociology) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I think this is a wonderful town, but my 4 years here are more than enough for me. Ann Arbor is all about the University of Michigan, heck, I think the state of Michigan is all about the University. The town and the school blend together very well, especially downtown Ann Arbor, but outside of downtown you really need a car to go places, even grocery shopping. There are concerts and cultural offerings pretty often but I think you need to find a way to find out about them. Campus and downtown are beautiful, especially in the warmer months, and during that time you will see people everywhere outside, eating at restaurants with tables on the sidewalks, reading under trees, playing sports, etc. But the winter months are frozen hell, although I am sure in Madison they are not much different. Also on the negative side, rent here is ridiculous! I pay $1,350 a month for an old 2 bedroom/1bath apartment on campus. Rent off campus is cheaper, but you need a car or public transportation to get to campus. I 'd say you can get a pretty good feel of what Ann Arbor is like in a 3 day visit (I did), I think the biggest difference between the two is that Madison is a bigger city, while at least compared to where I come from, Ann Arbor feels like a small town. If you are looking to become a football fan though, go to Wisconsin lol
  15. One of the schools I am applying to, and actually one of the ones I'm most interested in, emailed me the following message yesterday morning: My name is (Name) and I am the graduate assistant/recruiter for the Department of Counseling and Human Services at (School). I was asked to email you and let you know that we have received your application. We are in the process of setting up interview dates and will be contacting you in the near future to set up an interview day. I'm concerned about two things. Should I interpret the email to say that I will be given an interview? Since it says they'll contact me to set up a date? Or could it be saying that the application has been received, and I could, maybe get an interview since they are setting up appointments? I'm obviously reading too much into this but you all probably understand. Also, the email address I received this from was actually a hotmail account, not an .edu account, which I find extremely weird! Any ideas or suggestions as to how to take this and what to do? Thanks!
