  1. I'm starting Middlebury's grad program this fall, and the first year is in Russia (for a whopping 50K). They offer financial aid, but I'm trying to find external funding as well. Anyone know of anything good other than Fulbright, Boren, Gilman, or anything else whose deadline has already passed??? Thanks!
  2. I actually did the CLS advanced Russian in 2010 in Vladimir. The program is beyond amazing -- super well organized, and you are completely taken care of. Definitely not one to overlook!
  3. No, not next year, the year after. Thanks for the recommendation. It seems like the list is basically what I was thinking.
  4. Hello, Can anyone tell me about the best programs for national security? I'm ultimately looking to go into intel work, and I know Georgetown is a really good one, but idk what else to look at. Any good programs at ivy leagues? Also, if you have any special recommendations for these types of programs before applying (besides getting an internship or something with the gov) Thanks!
  5. Hello, everyone. I'm starting to look at graduate school possibilities, and was wondering if you could comment on my choices. First, I'll tell you about myself. I am finishing up my sophomore year at Ohio State. I'm majoring in linguistics and Russian, and just started minoring in political science. I have an overall 3.97 GPA. I am currently working on 2 research projects with one of the phoneticians at OSU (segmenting vowels...nothing fancy). I've done that this past quarter, and will continue working with her next fall. I plan to start my honors thesis next fall in phonetics, probably involving Russian. I have kinda high hopes for grad schools (all Ph.D programs). I know I couldn't get in solely with what I listed above, but does anyone have anything specific they could recommend (like presenting research, colloquiums, etc...)? As of now, I'm really interested in these schools: - Yale - M.I.T. - Stanford I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!
  6. About a week ago, I logged into my CLS application (Russian) and there was a new "accepted student portal" so I clicked it and it was a message "congratulations on being accepted to receive a CLS..." and had all of the forms. 2 days ago, I logged in and it was no longer there. However when I log out, it lists "application: submitted ---- accepted student portal: in progress." When the portal disappeared, I freaked out and emailed the CLS and they told me that they were still configuring the student portal, sorry for the confusion, and they'll send out letters within the next two weeks. But....no one else from my school (Ohio State) who applied for the CLS _ever_ had this accepted student portal on their application. I'm wondering if they were adding stuff to the student portal and he just wasn't allowed to tell me that I actually did get it. Am I being too optimistic? Thanks!
  7. I'm a sophomore at Ohio State and was wondering if anyone has tips on applying for MIT's linguistics program, e.g., specific classes that would help, specific research areas, etc. Tell anything and everything you can.
