Rejected from Duke (my first preference). I am pretty sad about it as I wanted to study at Duke with my best friend (aside from Duke being my outright top choice for academic reasons). Oh well, I guess rejections aren't solely about the strength or weakness of an application, but about the availability of academic supervision, whether or not the people who read one's writing sample like it, etc...

Hey BokononB, I'd love to visit the campus before I make my decision as I'll be moving to a different country in order to attend Hopkins (I am from Sydney Australia), but I can't make it before the deadline (and the airfare would cost me around US$2,000, well, US$1,700 less the US$300 allowance). What about you, are you planning on visiting? Have you ever been to Baltimore before? I'll probably accept Hopkins, but I am still waiting to hear back from Harvard... although I am sure the lack of contact thus far means I'm out. Have you decided on Hopkins already? Fred

I received an offer on the 26th as well - same as BokononB: $20,000 p.a. and intended cohort size of 5 out of >100 applicants.

I am an Australian student. I am ethnic Chinese so I guess we (everyone who has posted on this thread so far) have that in common. I've applied to Minnesota, Johns Hopkins, UNC, Duke, and Harvard. So far I've been accepted by Minnesota and Johns Hopkins (both with full funding), rejected by UNC, and still waiting on Duke and Harvard to contact me. I wish you guys success!!
