Finally heard back: rejected. Unfortunate, but expected at this point. At least I have a number of other good options. (By the way, it does look like the website only updates at midnight for some US time zone)

got an email back today saying that they're still reviewing files and will update the site as they make decisions. At least that means my application didn't just fall through the cracks.

I emailed, but I'll call probably tomorrow if I don't hear anything.

That's my thought: Today they accepted/rejected some people (like me and xiaoman), then sent an email to the rest that they're waitlisted. But if the site doesn't update immediately, then we'd end up with our current situation -- some people with official waitlist emails and some people with no new information at all.

Again, I'm in the same situation. My over-optimistic thought is that maybe the website only updates overnight... If I don't hear anything by tomorrow morning I think I'll contact the department.

By post or email? I still have nothing, but that makes sense if you got it by post, because our mail almost always comes at least four days late...

I'm in the same situation. Getting very tired of checking that page (but not so tired that wouldn't be depressed about a rejection ).

Anybody know when the recruitment day(s) for Northwestern are? I'd like to hear back one way or another before that... Edit: Oops, just noticed that this was answered earlier in the thread.

Yes, it was a personal email with recruitment weekend details attached. Funding is vague: currently is about $1500/month for TAing, but they expect it to be a little higher in 2009-10. It's renewed annually. I'm very excited about this... definitely one of my top choices. It takes the edge off some of the less good news I've received Best of luck to those still waiting!

Hey, congrats! Did the application website say anything before you got those envelopes?

I don't think anybody really has any idea. My guess is that we're somewhere between 'pending' and 'waitlisted'. They've already accepted/rejected a good chunk of the applicant pool, and they're waiting to see how that will go before making more offers. From reading other parts of this site and talking to professors, it seems like schools are being extremely cautious this year to not overenroll. I think that people are on average applying to more schools (for security), which makes the applicant pool larger and less certain for the departments. Of course this is all just barely-informed speculation, but at least it takes the edge off of the waiting...
