Any cyclists here?

11 June 2013 - 09:09 PM

There's gotta be cyclists here. It saves gas, and there's no insurance. I got into plain and simple commuting in college, because I wanted to save money on gas, and get some exercise. Now, it's become my most expensive hobby. It sucks because where I live, there's no cyclists at all, and I have to drive 30 miles to get into group rides. I just got a new carbon bike, and plan on doing some races, and see where I'll end up a year from now, when I'll hopefully move to a grad school. I want to get to cat 3 while I'm still single and free, if I can.

So anybody else on here like bicycles?

Asking my boss to write me a LOR

22 May 2013 - 04:43 AM

I'll be a 2nd rounder in 2014. Right now, I'm going to be a full time engineer for a year or so. But before November rolls around, I'm going to have to get my LOR's. My boss thinks I'm doing a good job, and probably wants me to stay with the company, especially considering we're already short on manpower. But I see this position as a stepping stone to an underpaid and overstressed placement as a grad student. I like research.

Anyone have experience with this? To my knowledge, my boss don't know about my grad school ambitions. My boss' boss seems pretty deliberate in making sure that I'm happy here, and that I don't have any other plans. He was the one who pulled the strings to get me from a co-op to a full time in the first place. I feel a little bad..

Is this something worth emailing them about

15 March 2013 - 07:16 PM

I've been doing a co-op since January. They seem to want to offer me a job. Now I don't want to play hard to get, like if you don't make me an offer, I'm gone. But I'm wondering if you think it's a good idea to email them to update my application to include my co-op, just to get my name out there a little more, and maybe add some more merit, considering industrial experience adds a little more for those who didn't apply straight out of undergrad.

I feel dumb for having to ask this. But I'm waiting for two programs and really don't want to fk it up.

So at this point, most of the offers have been made, right?

14 March 2013 - 07:58 PM

It's mid March. I'm guessing that most of the offers have been made. So now a lot of us are competing for fewer spots. This makes me sad. Is this an accurate perspective?

emailing POI's

01 March 2013 - 05:16 AM

I saw in the results section a post by a guy with a 3.2 GPA. He emailed a professor, got a response, and received an offer hours later. This is Georgia Tech, a top 10-20 school. As far as I know, this isn't something that normally happens. What do you think?
