  1. The threshold for interest income is $10.
  2. Still haven't gotten my official rejection (mail or website posting) from Michigan.....called a while back to find out, so I know I'm rejected, but....nothing official still.
  3. I'd contact them. The graduate offices I've contacted, when I haven't heard anything and others have, have always been really nice and helpful. At least then you're not left hanging and can figure out what your next step is.
  4. I'm trying to decide when it would be polite to start rejecting offers from schools I'm definitely not going to go to. How long from when you get an offer would be polite? Or on what date would it be reasonable to reject most of them? I don't want to insult any of the professors I've enjoyed meeting or had extensive dealings with, but on the otherhand, I don't want to hold up a spot someone else might be waiting for.

From the FAQ's Q. How long is the wait for housing? A. The average wait for a student with children is 4-6 months. Depending on the time of the year, some students with children have received a housing offer within 2 weeks of submitting an application. For more information regarding the offering process, please refer to the Frequently Asked Question.
  6. Is this true of all areas of poli sci, or more focused on theorists? And do you think that means, you couldn't an academic job generally, or just not one at a top school? And by top schools, do you mean top 10, top 20, top 30....?
  7. If e-mail requests for info don't work, or it's been too long, I really think it's ok to call and check the status of your application. I called Madison after a few weeks had gone by and everyone had posted their acceptances/rejections and I still hadn't heard. The graduate office was really very nice, and it turned out I had been waitlisted.
  8. Also, regarding funding. To those of you who have been accepted to Indiana-Bloomington, has anyone heard anything about funding yet?
  9. ummmm.....you do know that California is more than broke, right? Political science, or the social sciences in general, are not UCSD's main emphasis. They're best known, and probably have the best funding for, their medical/scientific specialties.
  10. So, if you're in a PhD program is it generally frowned upon if you want to take a couple of classes at another school? For example, you get into Princeton, but there's a prof at Rutgers in your area of interest that you want to take a couple of classes from? Or you get into UCLA, and you want to take a couple of classes at UC Irvine or UCSD? Etc.
  11. With regard to NW, at least for the history program, they just posted the rejections on the application website, last night actually. But I don't know about the poli sci responses.
  12. Sorry, I don't know much about taxation of international students. But for the American students, the following link has a decent explanation, scroll to the bottom third of the page, of how this works: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/students ... 74,00.html Also, if you click on the link for IRS Pub 970, one of the 1st few pages has a chart which gives quick answers to what's taxable and what's not. But definitely, if you get money for tuition and don't have to pay tax on it, you don't get a deduction or credit for it either - that would be double dipping. (my SO is a CPA and helps me out with this stuff)
  13. Hi. Does anyone know if Northwestern is done accepting? Only saw a few posted.
  14. Adding more questions to the pile......anyone know if Wisconsin-Madison is done? Haven't heard either way yet, and acceptances and rejections have been posted on the board for a while.
  15. Also, does anyone know if UW-Madison is done yet?
