  1. Yale already flew in prospective students earlier this week. They typically offer admission to half of the prospective students that visited.
  2. Well now that you mention it, I find your posts in general to be very juvenile.
  3. Oh god, really? They say "whatever" to Chicago's rejection (a fairly well-known defense mechanism) and you go off on their GRE?
  4. Well the main issue at hand is that you honestly seem to be trolling. No one has discussed the GRE at great lengths in the past two weeks so you have more or less come in here throwing punches at some invisible strawman.
  5. Oh wow, I did not see that nor did I ever find out about that until just now. I just remember being caught slightly offguard by the Stanford and Brown deadlines (or at least the original Brown deadline) since theirs were roughly 2 weeks before a pile of departments whose deadlines were on the Dec. 15th. Edit: Ah, just noticed your original post on that was from January 21st, I didn't start lurking here until I got my first acceptance at the end of January hence why I missed it.
  6. Yeah, that's also the impression i'm under (that said, holy cow at the slaughterhouse happening in History if one searches under Brown). I will say, perhaps unwisely, that given the fact that Brown was one of the schools with the earliest deadlines, I'm a bit puzzled as to why they're lagging behind with notifications.
  7. Holy flurry of results page activity, Batman! Congratulations to the Princeton, Yale, NYU and Columbia admits
  8. Well, this will be the last time I ask my travel agent for a letter of recommendation...
  9. Well, the number of people posting on the forum compared to last year is definitely down. I would hazard a guess that (for whatever reason) there are perhaps fewer people posting their results just based on the information we've gotten on the results page. There are a number of ivies who we've seen pop up with interviews on the results page and subsequently not had any rejections or acceptances for them since then. Again, this is just based exclusively on the results page (Scipio did give us the info about Brown yesterday).
  10. Taking into account your admittedly very personal ranking of these programs, may I ask why you think so highly of Texas? I suspect it's a difference in interests but whenever I glanced at their faculty, I found very few people interesting for Greek literature so I dismissed them immediately for my own purposes but I didn't actually look to see if they had strengths in other areas.
  11. Would you care to elaborate on what made the Harvard interview so intimidating?
  12. I agree that, provided that you are accurately transmitting what your professor wants you to do, the idea of you requiring an original manuscript from the time period in which it was written is unreasonable. I'm not familiar with Tacitus' manuscript transmission but in most cases, we're extremely lucky if we have an early Byzantine manuscript as most come from later dates. That said, perhaps you can pitch a project idea to your prof that would have you deal with not only Tacitus but also epigraphic inscriptions that would in fact be primary sources which suit your professor's requirements.
  13. Thank you so much for all the feedback! I really appreciate it. I have, more or less, done as Pitangus said and shared my plans with my professor and of course I will thank him for the help once the process is over. Thank you to everyone who replied for your time.
  14. A bit of a backstory: I graduated with a BA in History last year but wanting to dedicate myself to the Classics field (having no prior knowledge of Latin or Greek), I applied to various post-bacc programs in Classics despite the fact that most of them required at least intermediate knowledge of the two languages. I was summarily rejected because of this deficiency. I took an intensive Latin summer course and am at another university as a post-grad non-degree student currently studying first year Greek and second year Latin. I'm looking to apply again to post-bacc programs (where I'd be able to get _some_ financial aid) but here's my problem and where letters of recommendation kick in: Last year I applied with a letter of recommendation from the one Classics professor in my university's department with whom I have a very strong rapport with [hereafter named Dr. X], as well as another history professor who I felt could attest to my academic strengths. This year, I've asked Dr. X to write a letter of recommendation for my applications to Post-Bacc programs once again. He said he was impressed with my pursuit of a classics degree and he would be happy to support me again, which was great and meant a lot to me. Having said that, I fully intend on applying for graduate schools for Fall 2013 at the end of this year while I'm doing my Post-Bacc aaaand I'd really love to have his letter of recommendation again for that. But, if you're keeping track, that will be the third time I'd be asking for his letter and maybe I'm pushing my luck a bit? Love to hear some thoughts about this.
