  1. well, there we have it. thanks for the info
  2. unreal that they do it uni by uni.... if that's really the case. mind-boggling system...isn't mass-mailing what email is supposed to have made simple?
  3. yep. my rep just said no word yet and she emailed iie to find out when she'll hear. guess that's a bad sign eh?
  4. anyone else getting info today? still nothing here
  5. Ah. Thanks. There goes my fellowship. So be it.
  6. can somebody link me to the EPA letter re: cutting The Sustinainable and Healthy Communities fellowships? The last post's link doesn't work.
  7. Anyone who's applied previously have a sense of how tightly the bit in the announcement about application to "pollution mitigation and prevention" is followed? Specifically for terrestrial ecology projects, do we think application to an environmental agency and problem is good enough to have a shot?
  8. mad-geo. yes, there are usually a few/year given to international projects. it's allowed, but tougher to relate to federal agencies and the goals of the funding appropriation.
  9. Hi there, I'm planning to apply to PhD programs in ecology/conservation for Fall 2012. I've done research (jobs, MSc, undergrad) involving a VERY broad group of organisms and topics, and enjoyed it all. The problem I'm hoping for some advice/input on is therefore how to decide what to do the PhD on. I'm acutely aware that what I pick will be a long-term commitment, though not a "forever" set-in-stone topic for all of eternity. I could continue/extend what I did for the MSc but that seems like it would limit my opportunity to broaden who and what I know, or I could start fresh. Who out there, particularly folks in ecology/environmental programs, switched fields or sub-fields between Masters and PhD programs? How much did you know about the PhD field when you applied (i.e., enough to form concrete research questions in the application, or just enough to know it was interesting to you)? Many thanks for sharing, I'm struggling quite a bit with this. -ecologist1234
