  1. OMG its the 21st already!!! So what did you do PsychYe?!?!! Did you sit for the current GRE?
  2. hmm....does your program want you to have a high quant score? if it does then..maybe you should reschedule to a later time when you think you'll be able to do well. But if it isn't all that important and you feel you've prepared well for the verbal part.you should take it now.... I was intially confused too,but then I couldnt get any slots for the old GRE and I also knew 100% that i wouldnt be able to prepare for it even if I had a july slot.So i just registered for it in September. I just thought of it this way, what if I never even had that option of choosing between the two GRE's? Like what if I wanted to take it sometime that the New GRE was the only GRE? I wouldve sucked it up and taken it,Anybody would actually....lol... I find the math a little scary too,I mean considering the fact that for those "box" questions where you should key in your own answers, the answers could be ANYTHING! But I try telling myslef that in the end its the percentile that matters the most, and that would be judged not only by our performance, but all those who are taking it with us.So if its very tough for us...it's most likely to be tough for a large portion of the people taking it too(unless they are all insanely intelligent...ouch! that WOULD hurt..but lets just hope for the best? ) I think it all sometimes boils down to practice,I havent taken the New GRE so I cant really tell how its gonna affect the scores...but hey a ton of other people are with us,on the same boat as us...lets just give it our best shot? Keep me posted
  3. Thanks for the info stackoverflow and.Hatem! Hatem- is it really worth buying the old version to prepare for the New GRE? I cant even find the old book in any of the bookstores here. And if Ive got to order it frm amazon the shipping cost costs as much as the book itself! o_0 PsychYe!!!!!! So you are also gonna take it in in sept with me? Awesome news! haha.... I've been studying from Barron's. The day I bought my Barron's I also saw books like: 1)PR's math workout 2)PR's verbal workout 3)McGrawhills New GRE. Do you know if they are any good?(I actually posted this somewhere else on this forum too..but nobody said anything bout it). Ive heard good reviews about the cliff notes math review too.So what kind of book is it? I mean what types of questions does it comprise of? On a sidenote....I remeber you mentioning that you're on a full time job too...how the hell are u managing to study man??!!! Gosh....I make all these study plans everday..but the moment I'm back home from work I just wanna eat and go to bed.....I cant go on like this though...
  4. Hey guys! Does anybody know if the Nova New GRE Math book is out yet? I checked out their website, but couldnt find a book that says "new GRE". Is it already out and are they selling it with the same name as the older version? Also, has anyone used this book before for the old GRE? Is it any good? The reviews for this on amazon are oretty good......especially the math book. I've gotta get a very good quant score and have been looking for resources for the math portion of the new GRE. Any suggestions people?
  5. Hey guys! I'll be taking the new gre too( on sept 15). gigimorales-Ive also planned to study for about 2-3hrs a day in the weekdays and then about 6hrs in the weekends.I haven't started preparing...yet.(hope i dont go on like this though..lol...) I am trying for an Engineering programme so Ive really got to get a high quant score. Ive purchased one book so far-Barrons New GRE. What are the books that you are planning on using? Btw guys, does anybody know if Nova's New GRE Math book is already out? I think I'll probably start a new thread on this too.....
  6. Hey guys! @sarakeet: I'm taking my GRE in September too! I just bought myself a copy of the Barron's guide to the New GRE.Also on the same shelf I saw books like: 1)Princeton Reviews Math Workout for the New GRE. 2)Princeton Reviews Verbal Workout for the New GRE. 3)McGraw Hill's New GRE. 4)Manhattan GRE math(but this one was for the old one...and had books 2-8..). I've heard a lot of ppl mention it and am wondering if I should probably order it online or something. I have'nt bought them yet.I wanted to see if any of you have tried them before(for the old GRE) or currently using it now. When I actually went to the GRE shelf,I felt like buying all of these books as I'm sooo freaked out by the fact that resources for the New GRE are pretty limited ..lol...But then again these things are pretty expensive..... Keep the posts comin! Thanks!
  7. Hey GREAspirant I was going to start a thread on this...Thanks for already starting it! I am most probably going to take the GRE revised test too! (Hi5?) I have taken the GRE general test before(last year) and I used Kaplan GRE Premier....although I was not seriously preparing for the GRE..I found it useful for last minute revision.....I am unsure of how the book is for the revised test though... I am also eager to know how everyone else is preparing.....I'll be going to the book store sometime soon just to check out what they have...I'll keep you posted if I buy anything for the revised General Test.
  8. Thanks for all that info PsychYe! I just checked the dates...and I could'nt see any avaliable dates in july...So I'm most probably going to just take the revised test...Wish me luck..I'll be needing it! lol If i ever get a slot in july, like u said I'll call them before hand... So who else is going to take the revised test? Do post here...we could probably have something like an online study group..lol
  9. Hey PsychYe thanks for the reply! Yes I have seen the list of changes in the new GRE(from several websites actually) and I spent pretty much the whole day looking at forums discussing about the New GRE. Seems like most people think its going to be really tough(especially the quant section). It's pretty depressing to feel like tthe lab rat----how I hate myself for not having this sudden awakening about taking the GRE earlier. But, taking the current one would mean very little time to prepare as I am working full time. Have you tried taking the sample powerprep II test? I guess its got the new format.I haven't really tried it,but I am going to do that soon, just so I know how the new format really feels. I've got another question( I posted it elsewhere too) if I take the current format in July, would I be able to take the new one in August?(in case I screw up the old one..lol). The current format says that you can only sit once for the GRE in a calendar month. I read somewhere that for the new one you can only take it once in 60 days or something. I wonder how this is going to work, when shifting from the current to the new one......
  10. I feel you man! If I've got to take the current one that would only give me about a month to prepare, which isn't a lot since I'm working full time. And I'm planning on applying to engineering programs(cse/cs) I'll be needing a high quant score. Has anyone already tried taking the tests on powerprep II ? I havent been able to access the ets website today,I was thinking of trying a sample test to see how I'd really score on it. Ive got a question....If i probably take the current one next month, would I be able to take the new GRE in august? And would taking the GRE mutiple times be an important factor during admission decisions?
  11. Hey guys! I am planning on applying for grad school for fall 2012(most of the universities that Iam planning to apply have deadlines around dec 1,2011--jan 15 2012).I am actually very confused on whether I should take the current GRE format(which would only give me about a month's time for preparation if a get a slot in july) or take the New GRE revised general test sometime in September-which would give me a little more time to prepare. What's freaking me out about the new GRE test is that you only get to view your online scores in mid November and I guess they would be posted to you sometime in mid November too.Do you think it would be okay for me to take the test in September and still meet the December deadlines? Or should I just rush my preparations and take it sometime in July? (if I get a slot that is) Also, with the new GRE pattern, will we still be able to see the "unofficial" scores, right after we finish the test? Any suggestions would be greatly valued. Thanks in advance!
