My son said that he talked with his advisor last Friday and asked how many other Fulbrights were accepted from his university and she said that she didn't have the final numbers, that she had spoken with the German Commission (I think that is what he called it) and that they are not finished notifying people, that it occurs in rounds and they are only finished with the first round of acceptances.

Well, my son still has to visit with his advisor but he is definitely leaning towards accepting the DAAD which will open up a Fulbright for someone.  My guess is there will be others as well.........

He received a full grant for masters in environmental engineering in Germany. But he may accept the DAAD instead because he wants to extend it an additional year so that he can finish his masters and his advisor said that DAAD offers more 2nd year extensions than Fulbright.

My son got his Fulbright acceptance email for Germany this morning.  He also was awarded the DAAD last week so now he has to make a choice....

Thanks for the info. A friend of his in Hamburg is looking for a bigger apt. and he is hoping to slip into that one. I think he said that it was either 300 or 350 eu. a month. I don't know if he has to pay utilities on top of that. I have also heard that deposits can be rather steep in Germany as well. But between what he should be able to save over the summer, and the stipend, he should be fine. Thanks again.
