  1. Yes, I received the survey as well. From what I read on last years Boren post, the survey does not mean much. What we are waiting for is the email for "updating our budget".
  2. Monica - I may be relaxing partly because I am leaving for 16 days (vacation) to Mexico, so I am getting everything in order for that. If I was not preparing for that trip I would most likely be obsessing over my scholarships more lol But you are right, I will be much more relaxed come July when all scholarships have been awarded!!
  3. I am somewhat relaxed now too, knowing that it is completely out of my control! (x'ing fingers though)
  4. I was told that they give preference to applicants who are applying to stay 6 months or longer - Shorter proposals are more common among science/math majors I believe. I applied for an academic school year.
  5. Monica - I totally understand! The family aspect was one that I struggled with the most. My kids are excited about going, but my oldest is sad about missing basketball season (travel and school team), and my youngest is sad about that as well. As long as I can get my girls involved while abroad, all will be well (mostly sports). My husband wasn't initially going to come with me, but I am trying to convince him, at least while me and the girls get settled! This is going to be an amazing experience! I just hope everything stays calm in Jordan and that plans remain intact! Talk soon!
  6. No, it should not. When you get the actual figures go in and update your FAFSA. Good luck!
  7. I submitted my application 1 1/2 hours ago - Very excited!
  8. Monica - regarding your housing question: Qasid will help to arrange housing for me. I can put in a request (once we get closer). Ideally I would like to get an apartment within walking distance of the school, which sounds completely reasonable from what I have heard!
  9. Monica - My program is through Qasid in Sports City Amman :-) I am going regardless of the Boren as well (plus I have applied for other scholarships, and am in the process of applying for others). The Boren would make things MUCH more comfortable financially. Let me get this straight, you are proposing to study Arabic in Amman, and you also have a spouse and children? I am married as well, and have two daughters! They will be going with me, which I am very excited about!! I VERY rarely meet another parent who is studying abroad! You should add me on Skype: delecia.meza What program did you apply to? I have looked at many others but they were not very "kid friendly", which is okay, but the program at Qasid seemed like the perfect fit for my family and I!! Delecia
  10. River - Thanks for that info! When did you receive your initial email last year? Now I am extremely nervous ha! I thought I had until April/May lol ;-)
  11. ahhhh well that is good to know! Thanks ;-)
  12. So if we don't get the "email update request" then we can assume we are "NOT" moving on further?
  13. I am applying for the Gilman - Amman, Jordan 2012/2013 Academic school year - If I get it, I hope to get the additional critical language bonus. I do not consider the Gilman to be too stressful. I am almost finished with my application, and found it to be 10 x less stressful than the Boren. Good luck to ALL applicants! Dee
  14. Monica - What is your language/country of proposal?
  15. I want to give a HUGE thanks to RiverGuide!!! He has been immesnly helpful during this ENTIRE application process, he has spent god only knows how many hours reading my essays as well as giving me feedback. I had not received much feedback from my insitution on my essays, until recently, so having River there to help was greatly appreciated! So in the future, if you need anyone to read your essays, River is the guy! He also happens to be very knowledgable with the Boren application process. THANKS!
