  1. I went to George Washington in DC for my undergrad, and they have a pretty big accent reduction client base. Because of the locations, they see a lot of clients (politicians, academics from other countries) who come in for accent reduction for professional reasons. I attend grad school elsewhere but I remember that being the case a few years ago when I was in undergrad.
  2. I was browsing through the SLP threads and just couldn't help but comment on this one. Getting into grad school for speech is not easy. The applicants are, for the most part, crazy type A students who have been working towards a career in speech pathology for a long time. If you are not sure that it is the right field for you, chances are your reservations and lack of confidence will show in your applications, making it that much more difficult to get accepted. That's exactly why it's so competitive - to weed out those who are not fully committed. I am currently in grad school for speech and it was very difficult to get where I am. I applied more than once, and spent a long time gaining relevant experience and building my resume to compensate for a lackluster undergraduate GPA. It was one of the hardest things I've done, but now that I'm in school it is also hands down the most rewarding. If you really want it you can get there, you just have to be willing to work your butt off for it! It sounds like you've had some negative experiences. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that (I know I can!) but don't let those experiences make the decision for you. Do your research. Every school, every program, every application process is unique and if SLP is what you want to do, you'll find the place that's right for you. Oh, and don't let anyone tell you that being a speech pathologist is all about "reading test directions out loud and counting check marks." It's exactly that kind of insulting attitude and ignorance that will prevent you for furthering your career. Best of luck with your decision!
  3. @lakegirl92 I'd be happy to give you some feedback on your statement! I'm finishing up my first semester in SLP grad school, and was also a two-time applicant. I know how frustrating it can be, but you'll get there! shoot me a private message.
  4. @daisynic I am in the exact same boat! I graduated 2010 with an avg gpa from a great undergrad speech program. I applied for the 2012 cycle and got on some waitlsits, but didn't make it off them. I've worked so hard on myself and my application since then, taken grad classes, gained applicable work and volunteer experience, and I STILL have not gotten an acceptance this time around. It is so frustrating to feel judged based on grades, transcripts, etc that seem so far away ago to me. Best of luck to you, and everyone else!
  5. @Kearly I rec'd an email from Loyola on 02/26 - "We appreciate your patience during this process and anticipate notifying all applicants of their admission status by the end of March. As a courtesy, when a decision letter is mailed out to you, I will notify you via email so that you can, in turn, notify me if you do not receive it in a timely manner." (It also had some info about financial info sessions, etc). Hope this helps! I'm looking forward to hearing from them, too
  6. I've been following this thread for a while, haven't posted anything but today I feel inspired to chime in! First I just want to say you guys are all SO awesome and supportive. It is really nice to see people that are in a similar boat as I am so hard to achieve our goals and encouraging each other. I really hope everyone on here finds success this application cycle! (Especially you, @twinguy7! Your spirit rocks!) This is my second time applying for admission - first time was for entry Fall 2012. I've worked really hard on myself and my application the past two years and am having a second go this year! I applied to 11 schools and so far have received 2 rejections (Rush and BU) and was placed on 1 waitlist (MGH!). Still waiting to hear from a number of "less competitive" programs. I've been holding it together pretty well this time, but the roller coaster nature of the application process is starting to get to me!!!!!!! I wish there was more transparency. Just when I think I have a chance at getting into one school, they reject me! When I'm sure I've been rejected from another, I get put on the waitlist and the anxiety continues! At this point, I'm sure we're all feeling this way. Any words of wisdom or tips on staying sane?! It's crunch time!!!!
  7. Is it an accepted students day? Or just an open house for everyone? I haven't heard anything from USF yet!
  8. Has anyone heard anything from Boston U or Northeastern? Seems like I haven't seen even one post about them...
  9. I applied and havent heard from them either. I don't know what to think!
  10. I didn't get an email, but I have some sort of login for them I'm gonna check it out nowww
  11. i am going out of my mind. i just want to get into school sooooo baddddllyyyyyyyy. this website is causing me so much anxiety but i can't stop!!!!!
  12. I got the same email yesterday. Every time I called USF I got the impression that they were a bit frazzled haha it is a crazy time of year... so I don't think that it means anything other than your application is finally complete and being reviewed. aka... MORE WAITING. ahhhhhh.
  13. I got waitlisted at NYU too. Do we know about how big the waitlist is? Seems like a lot of people are on it! Who knows...
  14. I applied to USF, and my application has been complete for quite a while. The only thing I have from them is a UID to go and check my application credentials, but all it says is that everything is in and complete. I didn't get an email notification, but I did call to double check that everything had been rec'd. I wonder what their applicant pool was like. Any idea?
