  1. LOL. This made me laugh, which is hard to do right now. Thanks.
  2. This is torturous. Seeing all the rejections come up gave me hope that I would be receiving an admit e-mail soon. Of course they're doing it on a day when the office is closed so there is nobody to answer the phones. Congrats Grimwig!
  3. I was in the same boat (needing a new sample to send lit programs) and I definitely freaked out about roughly the same things. It's really difficult to write without anyone to discuss with. I enjoy working independently, but I'm also a verbal processor. So I found myself spewing gender theory at people who were a lot more interested in eating their lunches... Anyway, I hope it goes well for you (and me) and I'm glad to hear that I wasn't alone. :-)
  4. I went to a small, public school that barely anyone has heard of. I did fairly well there (3.8 major/3.64 cumulative) and I have good GRE scores (97% Verbal 5.0 AW). I will have stellar recs and I'm confident that my writing sample is strong. The thing I'm most worried about is that the (lack of) prestige at my undergrad institution is going to hurt me. I'm applying to very good programs, and, like everyone else, I'm freaking out. I have this nagging fear that I'm going to get placed into the "not top-tier" pile. Someone help me out here. Anyone come from a little known school and get into a top English program? Ph.D. or M.A. Thanks!
